As far as historical texts go, I'm not 100% sure that all the claims are technically correct. I'm not sure that Reagan is really Wolverine, for example, or that FDR was an early prototype Robocop. I'm still waiting the results of my test on American history, so I'll let you know how that went. As an engaging, accessible, and often laugh out loud overview of some of the weirder elements of the occupants of the Whitehouse, it's very good. Daniel O'Brien maybe doesn't excel quite so much in the long form as he does in video and short-article form (his work on Cracked is consistently first rate), but he takes on an interesting premise with considerable aplomb.

His credentials to write this book too are impeccable - as part of the research and subsequent peripheral work he did around the book, he ended up being interviewed by the secret service and put on a No Fly list. This is absolutely true. That alone makes the book worth buying, and I'd recommend googling 'Dan O'Brien' and 'Secret Service' for a hilarious overview of how that happened.

Such a great book. Remarkably it balances humor, information and awesomeness perfectly, something I didn't expect from it. This book has taught me most of what I know about American presidents and it has been a fantastically awesome read. Each president has been researched thoroughly and many incidents from their lives are brought up giving you insight into their character and how best to beat them up should you ever come face to face with them (via a time machine). There are many presidents you should just run away from (Washington, Roosevelt, Quincy Adams). Lots of people will appreciate the humor in this book, but you may just want to check some of the author's articles on Cracked.com to check if your sense of humor matches his. However, overall I really recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book immensely and while the premise is clearly just some silly fun the details contained within, about the presidents lives and actions, are fascinating. The chapters are also quite short (3-4 pages each) so it's easy to read a couple of chapters before bed each night and still have the book finished in about a week.

If you fancy learning some history without feeling like you're having a history lesson then this is the book for you.
