Goodbye to shy 26 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is actually a revised edition of Leil's earlier work "Goodbye to shy" which I also own. I was suprised by this at first, and felt a little cheated. However the revision works wonders, and this new version is a lot easier to read and flows more smoothly.

This is a book for people who have Social Anxiety Disorder or shyness. There are a number of books out there which deal with this subject from a self help perspective but none do so as precisely and eloquently as this little gem of a book does.

Its almost as if Leil is there with you, taking you by the hand and leading you down the path to being the confident social person you've always wanted to be. Leil herself suffered from severe shyness while growing up and she tells many anecdotes from her past to emphasise the techniques she has found that work. Her style is warm and humouress, you really do get the feeling that this is a woman who understands completely and cares deeply, unlike some other writers who take a more clinical approach to the subject, leaving you feeling like your in a patient/counsellor relationship.

There are plenty of other peoples stories in the book too, both from people she knows and from letters/emails etc she has received from fellow suffers. A number of times I got quite emotional as I related deeply with the experienecs these people had been through.

Its a hopeful book, not a instant fix as so many modern self help books seem to promote themselves as nowadays. As Leil herself points out a cure takes time, but while you reaching your goal you have Leil at your side with her ready wit and alot of fun to be had from trying out all her suggestions.

A marvelous little book :D

I recently bought Leil Lowndes' book "How to Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks For Big Success In Relationships". I found the tips within easily applicable and very well recieved: essentially what it said on the tin! On the other hand, buying this book - "How to Feel Confident" - I felt it was targeted at those who struggle to say "hello", as opposed to those who can say "hello" but struggle with being confident and the rest of a relationship. Genuinely only one piece of advice did I find helpful (to do with raising energy levels by being expressive, crazy, and physical when you wake up). Indeed, ironically, I felt myself becoming less confident as going through the book: it keeps on reminding the reader that they are a "Shy"; I felt branded into a category which I do not believe I necessarily am.

Therefore, in conclusion, I would advocate for anyone who simply wants to improve their communication skills (which, by implication, would increase confidence)to get Leil Lowndes' book "How to Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks For Big Success In Relationships". As I found this book - "How to Feel Confident" - would only be helpful for the enlightenment of the socially removed.

Great Book 9 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
Lots of interesting ways to make yourself feel more confident if you are self conscious. Some are more useful than others, but I'm glad I bought this book.
