Product Description

The Duchess is doing it again! Matchmaking, that is.

Bestselling author Karen Hawkins charms with a delightful retelling of Beauty and the Beast— Scottish style.

Scarred in the terrible accident that took his wife, gruff Lord Kirk has hidden himself from Society. When he meets his neighbor, Dahlia Balfour—a young beauty who shares his love for poetry and books—he realizes she is the one woman who could make him forget the past. But how can such a recluse attract the eye of an enchantress? Kirk appeals to his godmother, the Duchess of Roxburghe, to help him become the dashing, well-dressed hero of Dahlia’s dreams.

Arriving at a house party given by the Duchess, Dahlia is unprepared for the change in her neighbor. Suddenly, she is seeing him in a whole new light. When he captures her lips with an ardent kiss, she realizes he could be her romantic hero, but then a jealous rival twists an inadvertent comment she makes. Now Dahlia must persuade Kirk that she’s not just a pretty girl feeling pity, but a passionate woman who sees past painful scars into the soul of the man she’s come to love.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think this is the best 18 Sep 2013

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Well, I just finished Karen Hawkins latest release How to Entice an Enchantress. By the way, I loved. I might love this book more than the Rose's story. I'm going to stress, you might want to read How to Pursue a Princess before starting How to Entice an Enchantress, because there's some paramount information. You could probably get by, but I think it would enrich your experience.

Well, we are now focusing on the last Balfour girl, Dahlia. Now Dahlia believes in fairytales and happy endings, and she will not settle for anything less than true love. So, when she shoots down her neighbor, Alasdair Dunbar, Viscount Kirk, marriage proposal, Kirk decides to go the Duchess of Roxburghe. After all she kind of created his mess, but not all the blame can be place on her. Kirk has this inept ability to woo a young woman. The simplest way to describe his words of love would be in a practical sense. Which isn't going to win Dahlia's heart, after all she's looking for true love.

First off, poor guy. Seriously, it would be easier for him to dig himself a grave and cover himself before he can express himself to Dahlia. The girl doesn't make it easy either. Yes, Dahlia has high expectations when it comes to love. When Kirk doesn't express them the way she wants it, she's willing to forfeit true love. You got love Kirk on trying approach Dahlia by being logical. What a mess these two make? However, they sure make it entertaining as you watch them fumble along.

I really love How to Entice an Enchantress, because the couple. Yes, the story does remind me of Beauty and the Beast, since Kirk is scarred and gruff and Dahlia is caring and beautiful. I love how she sees pass what Kirk puts up front. I love how Dahlia learns that love is more than pretty words, even though they are nice to have here and there. Overall, I think the story is my favorite of the Balfour girls. So, if you tend to love Beauty and the Beast stories, I think you might enjoy How to Entice an Enchantress.

3.0 out of 5 stars NICE, BUT...... 1 Dec 2013

I hate it,when a hero has been in love before, but I decided to take a chance with this book, because of its description, and because I love the beauty & the beast theme. I did like the story. However, I was dissapointed. The hero does many lovely things for the heroine's sake, that shows his affection for her, but it would not have killed him if he had uttered those 3 little words ("I Love You") at least once, especially when by the end even a knuckle head like him, had to realize how important those words were to her. But he does not, not even once, toward the end of the story the heroine states that "he loves her", and he kinds of agree. YIKES!!! This was especially distateful (at least to me), because he had no trouble admitting (and several times at that) that he had been in love with his first wife and that she had been his grand whatever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have enjoyed all the countess diary series 7 Oct 2013

I have never written a review before, but since i was asked, i will give it a shot.
This book definitely had a "beauty and the beast " feel to it, along with the fairy godmothers. Easy and enjoyable read.
Would have liked to see Dahlia be a little less romantic as she came across naive and young. Kirk was really trying! Would have liked to see resolution of the loan disagreement and an epilogue bringing all the sisters and men together once again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fell flat! 3 Dec 2013

I wanted to like this book. I love adaptations of Beauty and the Beast. However, the writing in this book was horrible. There is so much filler and not in poetic prose kind of way. Paragraph after paragraph of mindless page filler completely take away from the story. This could have been a nicely written novella but the author stretched it into a very boring full length book and sucked any charm right out of the characters. Did not enjoy this at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty and the Beast 27 Oct 2013

This was the third in the series, and though I think you should read the other two to help the enjoyment of the series it is not needed. Dahlia believes in romance and love and wants the total package...what young girl doesn't! She has already refused Lord Kirk's proposal but he is not giving up. Does he believe in love, he sure doesn't think he does.... I love the fact that even with Lord Kirk's gruff manner and scarred face she sees past it, she sees the man he is behind what he shows to the world. I totally enjoyed this series, there is always much laughter mixed in every story and for me that is a bonus in any book that I read. I hope if you have not tried her that you take a chance and get this series, I don't think you will be disappointed.
