5.0 out of 5 stars A good addition to a beginners collection, 24 Nov 2004
The book is narrated by manga characters making it appealing. It also contains manga art pens, drawing paper and tone paper. The book explains how to use these. Also there are helpful hints on perspective, two point perspective, drawing backgrounds, super deformed characters, and distinguishing males from female characters and special effects. There are a few basic guidelines on how to draw bodies and faces. However I feel with this book you need to know a bit about manga drawing allready. This is because there is nothing about how to draw facial features like the eyes. However there are good instructions about backgrounds and making them convincing. For a first book I would go for something really basic like: How to draw manga by Katy coope ISBN 0-349-31745-2 also available from Amazon :-) it was my first book. If you are allready a collecter of manga books and would like to draw manga with the proper tools however, this set would be a great investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great all-rounder kit!, 27 Oct 2005
By Mr. David Dunn (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I'm new to drawing manga. I've always been interested in it, but never got round to drawing my own. I'm not boasting, but I'm naturally good (not brilliant) at drawing, so I decided to give it a shot! The kit included mostly everything you need, save the three brushes for inking, ink, a french curve and drafting pen (or something like that) for the 'windows'. The pen holder and nibs are a favourite of mine, and I'm sure there are a few manga supplies stores online.
The manga paper is marked out, and the tone paper is easy to use (well, in theory anyway!). The book is basically a guide to using the equipment and also tells you a little bit about the body (baby, child, adult, general manga faces etc.). I hope this has helped, look out for my 'Illustrating Battles' review soon!
