I am a begginer when it comes to drawing Manga, therefore I bought this book to improve my skill. When i get a book that is set out for beginners i would expect it to worry about the basic issuse like how to draw Face, Body, Diffrent expressions, and positioning of the character. I would have liked to see this as th eprimary task for the bokk then worry about other issues such as pens to use, shading, detailing and background etc as less of a focus point. It i fell does expect th ebuyer to have a certain level of drawing to begin.
I think In defence it does cover all areas possible which is a real plus for those who are really serious about making a real comic, this is what i mean by "it does what i wanted to well",because I wanted a book that covers all areas and this book does but not in enoght detail for my liking. It will literally put you straight on the path to making a full comic. It of course like allot of the manga How to draw series has help ful diagrams to show you examples of how you can achive th ebset results.
All to getter i would say this is a good book and definatly does have it pluses. If you already know the basics and you know how to draw a basic character and you want to "get started" on a comic. I would sugest this book. If you are like me and want some basic steps then i would say save this purchase untill you have improved on your basic drawing skills.

Love it! 17 Oct 2003
Format:Paperback
This book covers all the areas a beginner needs to know about! From how to draw manga people and backgrounds to how to use layouts to make stories more interesting. Since getting this book my manga has improved so much! My friends are now envious of my artwork and I will be buying other books from the series! The only problem is many of the materials mentioned in the book are not available in art shops in yokshire (I don't know about the rest of England) so they have to be bought off the internet, and most e-stores are not as reliable as Amazon!

this book taught me a lot about drawing the backgrounds in manga pctures as well as just the figures, it is the only book i have that does this. It is simple enough for beginners to understand but had section to keep a fairly experienced drawer interested. I would recommend this book to everyone apart from expert manga/anime artists.
