Money well spent, 22 Mar 2004
This review is from: How to Draw Manga: Compiling Characters v. 1 (How to Draw Manga) (Paperback)
I wouldn't consider myself a beginner at drawing manga, but then I am by no means a pro. This book is really good for either honing existing skills or developing new ones. Unlike some of the other how to draw manga books, this one gives an overview of a number of different techniques such as drawing faces, the body, perspective, clothes, hair and writing a story boards plus more. None of these techniques are described in great detail, but are none the less very useful and thought provoking and a good frame of reference. My biggest tip to you if you haven't already done it, is to go check out the drawing tutorials by Julie Dillon on the how to draw manga website. These are good to use alongside this book and hey, free lessons are always good!

Great book.... but watch out..., 15 Sep 2004
This review is from: How to Draw Manga: Compiling Characters v. 1 (How to Draw Manga) (Paperback)
This is a great book, you'll learn the basics of drawing a manga caracter. But... and there's allways one, it will not turn you into a pro, not even close, you will however learn (and well) all the basic stuff. This book will let you go all the way since choosing the right equipment, to drawing heads, the basic body, structure of body, simple face expressions, passing to simple tone application, normal mistakes, recurring problems, etc... A really good book for beguinners and medium artists. BUY IT!!!!
