Product Description

Product Description

We enter petrol stations, make our purchases and leave, without stopping to consider the creative and technical skill that has gone into the genesis of these modern-day icons. Minale's latest book not only provides us with a compendium of recent petrol station design including all the leading international names (e.g. Shell, Texaco) from the USA to the Middle East to Russia as well as the designers who created each project. It also focuses our minds on the power of branding and illustrates the way in which design can affect us subliminally and alter our buying decisions. And it raises essential questions about the future. In the new millennium, will the architecture and design of today's filling stations become as talked about as those landmarks of other ages-the great power stations, the deco cinemas from the golden age of film or the warehouses of our glorious manufacturing past?

Brings together for the first time a collection of some of those landmarks that we see everyday and forces us to see them as a whole - a rich design source relating to an industry which has had no recognition until now.

An essential book for anyone interested in design, marketing or retail

A great book that both summarises and highlights the importance of good petrol station design in winning the hearts and minds of consumers. As petrol prices soar and environmental issues become paramount, energy companies must increasingly look to new ways of attracting and retaining customers. This book gives a great insight into one effective way companies can do this - through good design.

Quite simply this is an excellent portrayal of the world of petrol station design. Best practice examples are backed by an insightful and colourful commentary by the late, great design guru Marcello Minale. The book gives you a great summary of what is required and what is possible when designing petrol stations. Outlining the importance of doing so to attract and retain customers, in the increasingly competitive energy market. A must for aspiring or experienced designers.

OK, too brief 19 July 2004
By A Customer
Visually impressive and good text to accompany it. Disappointing in its lack of depth - description of the client brief was all too, er, brief. Short discussion of options, then off to the implemented solution. There could have been a much better book in here with more description without it becoming over-technical.
An interesting read but not worth a huge chunk of anyone's money. Seems to me Minale put this book together with minimal effort and time, a shame considering the quality of his work.
