Product Description

Product Description

"How to Design a Light" tells you everything you need to know and looks at the principles and processes of designing a light. In a working case study Arnold Chan, one of the world's best-known lighting designers, traces the design and development of one of his installation at the London restaurant Hakkasan, and reveals exactly what is involved in creating a successful design.

About the Author

The Design Museum's mission is to celebrate, entertain, and inform. It is the world's leading museum devoted to contemporary design in every form from furniture to graphics, and architecture to industrial design. It is working to place design at the centre of contemporary culture. It demonstrates both the richness of the creativity to be found in all forms of design, and its importance. Design is a hugely fertile field of inventive new work, as well as a key component underpinning the modern economy. It provides a means for understanding the contemporary world, and, potentially, for making it a better place.

design a light 11 Feb 2011

Format:Hardcover
a little bit of history and stuff , but not a real beginners guide. just tells you what is in important and sometinhg on the side. no real instructions but i think thats good. nice book, but if u r already a designer you may not really need it and maybe not what u really need. but if u r an lamp-entusiast then get it! nicely done!

A little misleading 16 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover
This is a great theory book but anyone seeking to know anything technical will struggle to find much help, but a history and a current (as current as published books get)view of lighting today is well written. Does not actually tell you HOW TO design anything and so a little misleading. I feel there are magicians at work who will only hint that their trade is far more in depth than we take for granted. Still worth buying though.

AMAZING! 17 Nov 2011

I have to say this is one of the best books I have ever purchased.
Perfect for designers, it discusses every little detail about the process of designing a light, and it also includes a great overview of the notable pieces of lights throught the history of lighting design.
Really great book! And all the others from this series are as good as this one.
I highly recommend it.
