Product Description

Product Description
Everyone wants to be a DJ. Playing records and MP3s isn't rocket science, but there's a universe of difference between doing it and doing it well. DJing is like modelling: most people could have a stab at it, some can earn money doing it, but only a very few can become supermodels. This book both forms the perfect introduction for the novice who wants a pair of Techniques turntables for Christmas and contains enough spot-on advice and advanced instruction to be valuable to more experienced DJs. Written in an opinionated and entertaining no-bullshit style, with a healthy dose of realism, it shatters some illusions about the dance industry and offers in return some powerfully inspiring visions as it explains the true rewards of the DJ's craft. It includes everything you will ever need to know, from illustrated tutorials on mixing techniques and styles, digital mixing, tips on buying the right equipment and records, advice from superstar DJs aplenty, plus how to make your own tracks and how to throw the best party. Now all you need is to get out of your bedroom and do it ...

From the Back Cover
* The world’s first credible and comprehensive guide to DJing
* All levels from beginner to advanced
* Packed with hints and tips from the worlds greatest DJs

‘With so many books and courses available to the beginner now, it’s great to find one that gets it spot on. In future if anyone asks me for tips on Djing, I’ll simply tell them to read this. ‘ Rocky, X-Press 2

‘I love this book – it’s helped me set many guidelines for my longterm dream of starting a DJ Academy. ‘ Danny Tenaglia

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the lot, 13 Jan 2005
Right. Just bought some decks and don't know what to do with them? This is the book. I was in that position, and worried about a) being patronised (I play a number of instruments quite well), or b) bored to death by a squillion obscure labels for music I don't like (happy euro trance etc.). Having looked about, this was the only DJ book on Amazon with no negative feedback, and it's for a reason; it really is very very good, for anybody at practically any level (unless you're Cash Money or somebody). Tells you literally everything (technique, technical stuff, business, music industry), doesn't talk down to you, doesn't obsess about style. The authors tell you again and again that it's all about the music, so if that's how you're looking at it as well, I can't recommend it highly enough.
