I Played keyboards in a Keys/Bass/Drums trio in Australia in the late 70s through to the mid 80s. We heard what the Peddlers were doing in the UK, and loved it.
Through those years, we learnt a lot of the Peddlers arrangements of old standards, and just loved performing them. At the time ,we were considered to be one of the most forward thinking musical trios in Oz, and I believe that the performances of our versions of the Peddlers songs had a lot to do with that.
I'm not saying that we were near as good as them, but they influenced us immensely. And by listening to them, we became better players.
Since that wonderful time, (mind you, the three of us are all still playing professionally, grey hairs 'n all), I had lost my original Peddlers albums. So glad to be able to access them again .
After all these years, these guys STILL have an originality that has never been copied or compromised. In the 2010s, we are so used to hearing perfect audio quality, that when we listen back to the recordings of several decades ago, we can hear not only the lower quality audio, but also the great variance from track to track in the audio and equalisation. Doesn't matter!!!!!
What Roy, Trevor and Tab did then was just SOOOOOOOOOOOOO unique, and will always be.
Great musicianship, unique arrangements, inspired playing!!!
If you haven't heard them before, do yourself a really big favour, ............listen !!!
