Review

As some of you may know we brought a T4 panel van to convert into a camper which was hard work not knowing what would work. If only I had this book before I started. If anyone is thinking of converting a T25/T4/T5 van themselves then this is a must-have book, 'How to Convert Volkswagen Bus or Van to Camper'. It's a bit like a Haynes manual with step-by-step descriptions and pictures. It's a must-have in my opinion. It covers all aspects from start to finish on every detail you might need. Starting by giving you advice on what to buy and what to look out for. Then step-by-step details starting with the exterior of the van, including removal of a bulk head, cutting the windows in, even doing a roof conversion. Followed by interior work like installing seat belts and ply lining. It shows different layouts, how to build the units and installing a rock-and-roll bed. Also covered are fitting of services eg. electric hook up, gas connections and water for the sink. Even how to fit blinds to the windows. For me chapter 6 is the most interesting, showing how to fit all the extras, including parking sensors for the ladies; a tow bar; the electrics; dash trim and basic stuff like applying any decals make your van stand out. Also important information about choosing alloy wheels and the correct load rated tyres. I also like the details on colour coding bumpers, mirrors and window tinting as this can be expensive. There's even a section on installing heated seats and a webasto diesel heater for those cold nights away. If only I had this info when I did mine, it would have saved me a lot of time thinking, headscratching, swearing and better still, money. If you want to convert a T5, at £35.00, it would be money well spent. I give this book 10/10. Published by Veloce Books. Just need a T5 now to put it into practice. --Review by Louis Ludewig for Wheelspin, Summer 2008

dont press it 21 July 2008
Format:Paperback
I purchased this book thinking it would help me build a camper van, it wont, all it is, is a book full of pictures that anyone could get from the web, the author isnt daft, she knew that this book would sell as there is thousands of camper fans out there, i hope she can sleep at night, im glad i waited the book was reduced to £14.99, it was £24.99+, i think people must be onto her, thats probably the reason she has wrote (sorry taken pictures) and created a new book on the VW T5. save your money and just look on the web, or get the Volksworld camper magazine.

VW to Camper 13 April 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is a photo step by step conversion of VW vans to campers, the only thing is the people who are doing it are all pro. fitters as the main parts are the actual conversion of the authors van.the photos sometime skip to another van and then to another model, the men doing the job have all the correct tools and nothing is taken into account for an armature doing work at home. Some of the author's comments are strange like the fitter being naughty for not wearing gloves and a few other things.I bought this book in good faith but found it not very good.and judging by the number of pre. used ones for sale I am not on my own.

bus/van conversion 5 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
This is a fairly practical guide to doing your own conversion. It covers some of the main jobs such as installing windows/seatbelts/elevating roofs, and items like upholstery. There are some limitataions though, as it follows the progress of one t4 and one t25 through a leisuredrive conversion. It doesn't have self-build plans for furniture units, or instructions on fabricating a folding bed. It does not show for example where the floor mounting points are for seatbelts in a t4, nor details of internal measurements, nor how to lower the suspension. However, it clearly shows the steps involved in many jobs and gives confidence in tackling them. A very good buy generally.
