Review

This is an excellent book, giving students the knowledge they need in a way that they will understand. --Samantha J Ellombe, Course Leader, University Centre at Blackburn College

Product Description

This book summarises the ideas of educational theorists and psychologists of the last 60 years, from Elinor Goldschmied to Tina Bruce. It also looks at the important contemporary issues in early years education, from whether boys and girls learn differently to the role of the community in the early years setting. How Children Learn 3: Contemporary Thinking and Theorists is a straight-forward guide to some of the most important and cutting edge ideas in early years education of the last fifty years. This easy-to-read book is designed to save both early years students and professionals time in summarising many of the key theorists. This title covers: the most influential writers in the early years from Elinor Goldschmied, Urie Bronfenbrenner to Tina Bruce. It explores answers to questions on burning contemporary issues, such as whether boys and girls learn differently, and how and why involving the local community can benefit early years education. This title advises on how each theory can be put into practice, with examples and provides criticisms of each theorist, plus a list of references to retrieve further information.

Great read 3 Jan 2011

Format:Paperback
This book has helped me throughout my higher education studies and has helped to simplify the various theorists, although it is worth noting universities do not allow you to reference from these books as they are not of a high enough level. However still a very useful aid in putting you on the right lines!

I am currently completing the Foundation Degree in Early Years, and all three of these books are an invaluable source of reference. I find that they are easy to use, give a brief, but informative synopsis of the theorist or theory, which enables you to then go on and research further if needed. Brilliant Books!
