5.0 out of 5 stars Getting to the point on global warming ..., 11 Mar 2008
By Snow Leopard (London, England) - See all my reviews
The market for books on climate change has mushroomed, but unlike many others, the authors of this book actually have a plan! After diagnosing the problem and assessing current 'solutions', Hillman, Fawcett and Rajan propose a system of 'personal carbon allowances' as the driving force behind a carbon reduction strategy. It's a concise and compelling argument that has already attracted attention in the UK and elsewhere (e.g. see David Milliband's DERFA blog, the Sustainable Development Commission, the CRAG movement), but it really deserves a wider hearing. This new version of the book is primarily written for North Americans, but is still relevant to anyone who is interested in a practical way forward - in place of the current policy mix (i.e. in equal parts: techno-optimism, heady romanticism and outright denial).
