Coming back to aero modelling on my retirement after an absence of about 30 years I was looking for a good reference book to bring me up to date with modern developments, building techniques and to get to grips with electric powered flight. The author recommends asking fellow modelers and shop assistants which I have done and am trying to avoid by reading this book. Once I found inaccuracies in basic calculations on wing area and loading I lost confidence in both book and author. For me this was a disappointing book and leaves me wondering weather this book was a commercial venture with the benefit of research rather than experience and just enough content between all the pictures to attract a publisher's interest, as the author appears to have published books on other modeling subjects like trains and slot cars.

A Novice's View 12 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
I was specifically looking for information on building an electric model aircraft but I feel the title of the book does not reflect the contents. Slight reference is made on "almost ready to fly" models but the author states "I have deliberately avoided most of the kit and built from scratch models because there is no absolute need to build". I was therefore very disappointed at the lack of build content. Information on other non-build technical matters was appreciated.

Not for modellers 25 Nov 2005
Format:Paperback
This book appears to have been intended for the modelling "virgin", but unfortunately has very little in the way of techinical content,no practical construction tips or "hands on" modelling content.
All the aspects of the subject are covered in a manner which would only appeal to non modellers.
The constant recommendation for this or that product will date this book very quickly. Modelling like all things nowadays changes very quickly from a technical stand point. A lot of the items in this book will not be available in 6 months time.
Not recommended for real modellers.
