4.0 out of 5 stars Possibly better value than a helmet 25 Oct 2010
The book is well illustrated and gives sensible advice. Useful for an inexperienced cyclist and as a reminder for the more experienced. The author's prejudices come through - he does not like cycle lanes on pavements. As it happens neither do I, but others will disagree. There is a balance of advantages to be struck. It is good to be reminded of the disadvantages so that one can mitigate their effects. The focus is on keeping out of trouble. I like that. I do wear a helmet but hope never to test its efficacy :-). Hopefully follwing the advice in this book will reduce the probability of that test.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide to Safer Cycling 26 Jan 2013
By Hexhome
John Franklin's advice is based on the real world of cycling on UK roads. You will not find a huge amount of the Highway Code type of advice here, rather than the safest and most efficient way of negotiating our roads by bicycle. The pros and cons of Cycling Facilities are explored and their safety questioned. Any cyclist reading this book will become safer and wiser.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to Be a Better Cyclist by John Franklin 11 Sep 2013

This is a good book and an easy read. Good photographs. The book is not as comprehensive as his Cycle Craft book though. Although the book is written for British cyclists; American cyclists can benefit from reading this book.
