5.0 out of 5 stars Great Content 19 Nov. 2013

Prior to reading this book, I did not know what else to do with herbs except for seasoning my food. This book has opened my eyes by giving me an insight into the health benefits of herbs.
I discovered lots of great herbal recipes which I can use to deal with coughs and colds, like the Mullein tea, Country Sauerkraut, Stir Fry Sauce, all made using everyday ingredients that can be sourced easily. The authors are so right when they say that the "Most powerful herbs are already in your kitchen cupboard" Herbs good for boosting the immune, the digestive and respiratory systems to mention a few, are all easily accessible.
Learning about the health benefits and uses of cranberries, ginger, parsley, tumeric, nettle, pumpkin etc, is invaluable.
This is not the kind of book you read once but rather it is one that you can always refer to from time to time.
It was good to know about alternatives to regular medication.
There were a one or two typographical errors in the book but I still recommend this book highly based on its brilliant content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rejuvenate, revitalize, and refresh your body with herbs 4 Dec. 2013

The authors claim that using herbs will change your life by - among other things - improving your health and putting you more in tune with your body. For the purposes of the book, they define an herb as any useful plant that can be used for healing. As one example of a plant that many people would not think of as an herb: dandelion, used in healing some gall bladder and liver ailments. Many herbs are used in cooking, and a few are actually eaten as standalone foods.

The book describes the various tools and utensils needed for preparing your own herbs. Many people already have some of these, but things like a coffee grinder may need to be purchased. Preparations like infusions and decoctions are mentioned. The balance of the book addresses the choice of herbal remedies based on the system of the body that's ailing. Ten different physiologic systems are described (examples: digestive, nervous, and immune systems). There are specific herbs and foods that strengthen each system, and their uses are explained in detail. The authors state that proper use of these herbs will rejuvenate, revitalize, and refresh your body. For the most part, the herbs in the book are readily available in fresh or dried form, or you can grow your own.

It's an interesting and very informative book, and an excellent primer for anyone who wants to know more about the use of herbs in healing.

This is a fantastic book that is organized in such a way that it is very easy to use and apply the information. The book is divided into sections dedicated to different body systems like the immune system, circulatory system, nervous system, digestive system, etc. The beginning of each section even provides a short overview of the workings of that particular system. This is a much better layout than other books that are organized by the various herbs.

Highly recommended!

How to Benefit from Everyday Herbs By Patricia Bratianu and Donna Schwontkowski

I was extremely impressed with this book. I have read several different herb books by far this is one of the in depth and informative ones I have read that is for a Kindle. It didn't just talk about healing herbs, it talked about the body systems that each herbal remedy will relate to. We just can't treat a illness with a herbal remedy unless we know what body system we need to treat. That way we know how to use the herbal remedy for healing.

There are plenty of herbs covered in this book along with some great pictures of herbs. There are many recipes for you to make for healing. The recipes are tea, salve, tinctures and more. Each of these recipes use herbs that are very easy to come by.

People have been moving away from modern medicine to other alternative herbal remedies. If you have thought about using herbs or wanting to learn about herbs this is a great book to start with. It covers more then a lot of herbs books I have read and it is far from basic.
