I wish I had bought this book when my boy was a baby. It is full of great advice and help. Some of it is wishful thinking, but it is gentle, full of common sense (that can go out of your head when faced with feisty toddlers) and doesn't have the judgmental smugness of lots of these books (ie, the baby whisperer). If you have discipline issues, buy it. It's liberating to think you can try and get order without endless acrimony around the house. Having said that, I have only been following it for a week! - but its been a nice week so far.

Bought this book at a time just after I gave birth to my second daughter and as I am finding it increasingly hard to discipline my elder daugter whose currently 2 and a half years old. I was looking for inspirations and also alternative approaches.
This book is full of good and practical advices (though at times I find the writing style a bit repetitive), a lot of them are common sense but good reminders for busy and tired parents. Two important pieces of advice I take away are being consistent and have a positive attitute.

I was having a few behavioural problems with my 4 yr old and found that most literature was aimed at younger children or older. This book has given me a few tips on how to deal with tantrums in a 4 yr old. The book is not condesending and doesn't tell you how to act and exactly what to do it just gives you ideas and scenarios on how to deal with your pre-schooler. the book is American but I haven't found that a problem.
