I am "Outstanding"! It's official - I had my Y9 lesson observed this week by the headteacher (who is also an Ofsted Inspector) and he was full of admiration and enthusiasm. Things he liked: detailed planning; clear thinking; challenging activities; progression; behaviour; sense of humour and warm relationship with my class. HURRAH! And I have to say, it's all thanks to this lovely book.
Well, I picked it up as part of my Christmas shopping in the hope of gleaning one or two ideas...and was thrilled to discover how easy it was to read. How many times have you picked up one of these books, only to throw it down in disgust?
The format is clear and simple. I loved the "reflection moments", which really helped me to consider my classroom practice. In the dark days of December, when we're all shattered and desperate for the end of term, it's hard to think we're inspiring anyone - yet, this book made me see that I can be a great teacher and brought out the best in me.
Lovely quotes and "thinking points" boosted my confidence and made me feel that I am doing the job I set out to do. It also drew out ideas, showing me how to link my lesson tasks and build a better relationship with my pupils. I tried out a couple of the "pupil feedback" ideas on the first lesson back in January and was overwhelmed with the fantastic response I got.
All I can say is thank you so much, Caroline. Your book contains great ideas and little "pats on the back" that our profession dearly needs.
If, like me, you are in need of refreshment and a chance to feel inspired again, then this is the book for you. Enjoy x
