5.0 out of 5 stars Real life tried and tested practical advice 11 Feb 2010
By Antonia Chitty VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
How to Afford Time Off with Your Baby: 101 Ways to Ease the Financial Strain is an excellent book. If you are pregnant and wondering how you will make ends meet if you don't go back to work, you should definitely check it out.

I get fed-up with the tired old tips that come out again and again in many features on saving money when you have a family, and Becky Goddard-Hill has done a great job in coming up with realistic and practical original advice for cash-strapped parents and mums to be. What's more, she hasn't fallen into the trap of many yummy-mummy journalists who were obviously living on a much higher budget than most of us in the first place and offer somewhat unrealistic advice.

What Becky does offer is straightforward practical tips on subjects like:

10 things you should borrow for your new baby
birthdays and baptisms on a budget
looking after yourself for next to nothing
low cost activities for the pre-school years
earning money while staying off work
and an inexpensive Christmas
You can tell that Becky has tested out her own advice in real life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential bedside reading! 23 Dec 2009
Format:Paperback
This is a brilliantly written summary of so many areas of early baby-dom and beyond. Not just for new-borns it's a book you will seek advice from for years to come and reinforces the idea you're not the only one wondering what the options are! Packed with both lists and suggestions, it's great to pick up and flick in any spare moment and will remain beside my bed for many years to come!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have 18 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
What a brilliant book! Even for me, twice a mum, I've discovered some really excellent money saving ideas and sound tips & advice. The book reads really easily and as the kids grow up and the family needs change, I found myself referring back to it again and again. The whole tone of the book is like having a chat with your best friend which is very special. Can't recommend it enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have book for mums-to-be! 6 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
Jam-packed with tips on saving money as a new mum, this book is essential reading if you want to reduce your working hours to spend more time with your young family. I read it just after my second baby was born and I thought I was pretty good at saving money, but I still learned a thing or two!

You can read it cover-to-cover or dip in and out - useful if you're a sleep deprived new mum.

I think what I liked best about this book is that Becky was determined that not only would she drastically cut her family's budget, they will have fun doing it too. Saving money becomes a positive experience for the whole family, allowing them time to spend with each other, with grandparents and to grow a community around themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic read 8 May 2010
Format:Paperback
i bought this book as i wasnt going back to work after my maternity leave and we were starting to sturggle a bit with money. i had heard this book mentioned when i was out one day and looked it up and ordered it. This book is fantastic especially if you are pregnant as it give great advice and money saving tips, like the money you will no doubt be giving for the new baby, its is a gift to help so why put it in the bank, buy toys, sheets, nappies !! i wish i had bought this while i was pregnant as it has been so useful i just wish i had started using it sooner. I have joined some of the consumer panels mentioned, where you do surveys for small amounts of money but 50p here and there soon adds up.

Great value for money, and a really helpful book,

its a brilliant buy, for yourself or a friend who is pregnant or at home with baby x x x

Really enjoyed reading this book, it was full of insightful tips and hints on managing your money while you're off work looking after children. I found it incredibly truthful as the writer has obviously been through this situation herself, and because of this none of the lifestyle changes she suggests are beyond the capacity of the average household. We've already started making some of the changes she suggests in anticipation of when I leave work in a few weeks.
