Everything you ever wanted to know about house building in the old traditional style with lots of diagrams and pictures written by eminent building historian. Just the book for a cosy evenings read and a marvellous reference book for those owners of old house who want to get to grips with wattle and daub.

A wonderful book containing a lot of knowledge and research that is clearly explained and well-illustrated. It seems to be the primary source of information for a lot of books on the same theme that have been written subsequently. Being well laid out, readable and authoritative, it is an essential reference for anyone interested in this topic.

This book is very readable and gives a good overview of the evolution of dwellings in Britain. It could be slightly improved by a few more references to architectural details and some commentary on typical dimensions etc
