Needed a polish before initial print. 5 Dec. 2011
By Pat - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
EDIT: Due to A+ personal customer service by Rick, this review has has its rating bumped up a star, since my misprint has since been replaced by the improved copy. I feel that this new rating now represents not only the product, but the man backing it up.

[The review below is no longer relevant to the versions currently being sold]

I'm not going to go into the quality of the comic itself, as most buyers of this wonderful web-turned-paper comic should already know what they are getting themselves into.

I purchased the first run of prints, before the book was taken out of production temporarily and then put back up. The reason for this was due to a few errors.

The first: color. When examining the color, it is noticeably darker and less accurate to the online version, even when compared to the first book, which is closer to the originals. This threw me off, initially, but doesn't actually impair ones ability to enjoy the comic. It's just a touch of inconsistency between Book 1 and Book 2, is all.

The second, and more important: A missing strip. Now, this normally wouldn't matter a whole lot if it was a one-off strip, but the missing strip was from an actual arc. Not just any arc, either; it was a critical moment during the establishment of, who many consider to be their favorite character, everyone's favorite Welsh Corgi, angsty and short: King.

These issues in the initial run, to the extent of my knowledge, have been fixed in the current run of prints. The text on the prose All the King's Men has been downsized to reduce the amount of pages, as well. While the current run most likely deserves the five-star reviews, I can't help but think of the initial buyers who received a bit less than they expected.

EDIT: As it turns out, Rick Griffin is now offering to replace the 25 or so copies that were sold before the fix. Check out for more info if you are one of the few that purchased the first run.

My Precious... 23 Mar. 2012

I purchased this as a gift for a good friend. I've got to say that this is an excellent webcomic! Each character and story arc is wonderfully charming (and of course, well-drawn). I always enjoy a good laugh or smile and Housepets gives me that. I'm certainly looking forward to more publications.

Housepets Part Deux 28 Oct. 2011

Well, its like Housepets Volume 1, except this one follows on afterwards ... what else can you say? It's an amazing web-comic in dead tree format.
How can you get any better than that?
Printing issues... 9 Jun. 2012

This has been mentioned before, but the printed version does not give justice to the online version.
Specifically, the night scenes have printed off far to dark so you cannot actually see the background (it is more or less a plain black back ground). Also, yellow has printed off with a heavy green tinge, this is most obvious in panels with Pete (his legs and beak look green and its really annoying).
None of these affect the reading of the comic, and we all know that the comic itself is awesome, and the few printing issues can be overlooked.
Could a masterwork get better? 24 Nov. 2011

Yes, if we're talking about HOUSEPETS! The author's unique combination of art and writing provides endless fun for the reader, and a character insight that has few matches in the kingdom of strip comic. When you think you knew a character, foresee a situation, Rick Griffin will surprise you with the classical 'unexpected twist'.
Fine quality print and extra art, AND the delightful ALL THE KING'S MEN, the first canon short story, make for a good experience both for new and old readers.
