3.0 out of 5 stars 3 stars for a half decent film 28 Feb 2008
Format:DVD
there is one thing that always gets me about horror films, you never usually get ok ones. i happen to think this is one of those films though. this film doesn't have any sort of plot, but it does have some great action scenes. one of my favourite moments is when the cast are shooting the zombies in the graveyard and the camera does a 360 slow motion around them. its low budget, but genius at the same time. there are better zombie films around, but i do like this one. you can easily find these for under £5, so give it a try. don't let other people decide for you, do it yourself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Damn poor excuse for a zombie film! 26 Jan 2008
Format:DVD
I had heard of the numerous poor reviews for this movie but rented it anyway as I was a fan of the arcade game and wanted to see for myself what it was like. Several times I almost turned it off, only forcing myself to watch the ending to get what little value for money there was to be had. To begin with the film has nothing to do with the game, instead there was some garbled nonsense of soem Spaniard from several centuries ago killing the crew of a ship to land upon an island where he began to reanimate the dead.
Added to this the characters were truly forgetable, none of them offered any empathy with each other, let alone the audience and none of them could act. The dialogue was laughable, the camera work painful to endure as the director attempted to copy Matrix only to fail in whatever intent he attempted to capture. The zombies themselves were not scary or realistic and it never ceased to amaze me how well a group of people who had never handled a weapon could so easily use a variety of powerful military issue guns and not miss. Also in every other zombie film made it takes a hell of a lot to kill one as they are already dead and yet many went down wuth a single bullet or stab wound to the chest. I particularly liked the skill that the heroine employed with a sword at the end of the film despite the fact few in real life could use a sword for more a few seconds without cutting some part of their body off in the process.
In short everything about this film was wrong. Why SEGA wanted their name plastered all over the beginning of it is a mystery in itself for few would want to be associated with this travesty.

5.0 out of 5 stars An improvement?.. Ohh yes indeed! 2 Jan 2009
Format:DVD
Uwe Boll still remains one of Hollywood's most hated men... Fair??? To be honest i'm a fan, yeap i said it "I'm a fan" and you know what i'm kind of proud of it... Sure Boll maybe the "new" Ed Wood but somehow (to me anyway) his films remain very entertaining (sure maybe for the wrong reasons but what the heck!)

House Of The Dead on it's original release was the film to kick off all the hatred and with this release of the same film he gives the haters something back... In this case by re-editing the flick with outtakes and other such bits of nonsense such as stupid sound effects and pop up bubbles written by one of Boll's many critcs, yes it gives the whole thing a Mystery Theatre 3000 feel but it works! Ok, so you can say why make a "funny version" of a flick that was already (un-intentionally) pretty darn funny? But at least it proves that Boll unlike a lot of other (more well respected) film makers doesn't take the work he does too seriously...

Dvd wise; Another of Boll's entertainingly blunt and honest com's, his views on Hollywood etc. are always priceless listening and a couple of featurettes ported over from the first dvd, good transfer too...

1.0 out of 5 stars Truely Awful 11 April 2006
Format:DVD
This is the worst film I've seen for a long time. It has no plot. Some teenagers go to an island for a rave, which turns out to be deserted. Some zombies turn up. There's lots of shooting. Then it finishes with all but one of the characters dead.

The direction was very amateurish. We see people running through a forest, quick shots of a zombie's face by a tree, more shots of people running, a shot of a video game, a shadow of someone running and then a shot of another zombie by a tree.

The dialogue was cringe-worthy and the acting was poor.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'm ashamed........ 9 April 2006
Format:DVD
I love taking my brain out occationally and watching trashy horror flicks, particularly after a hard day in the office. However, this movie had me reaching for the remote quicker than a zombie after a rare steak.
Thankfully I only hired it from Amazon (an excellent service) and didn't have to suffer the indignity of keeping it on my shelf (it would do as a coffee mat either).
The acting was non-existent, but then again there was no script to work with. The editing was dire, effects were insulting and the plot holes were visible to my dogs.
This movie fails on every count. If you want a quick fix horror, avoid this like the plague. If you suffer from insomnia, this is for you.

This is a terrible movie, has nothing to do with the game, bad acting, bad factual data for example, YOU CANT FIRE A DESERT EAGLE ONE HANDED AND THE ONLY VERSION YOU CAN WOULD HAVE RECOIL YET THE ACTORS FIRE THEM WITH NONE. sorry had to get that out the way as it really bothered me during the film, no idea why.

the acting is as i have already said terrible, the script is worse theres no idea as to what is going on it jsut seems like a random set of scenes from different movies with the same actors forced to work together.

then it cuts to random scenes from the game (trying hard to keep to the game).

fact is dont be fooled and think i might as well try this film, its not worth it, its an hour and a half you wont get back.

House of the dead is a game that didnt really have a storyline, its jsut go along and shoot zombies, a film was a bad idea, and yet here it is...avoid.

2.0 out of 5 stars Failed attempt at an over-the-top cheese flick...
Just as the Amazon review of House of the Dead describes this film as an intentionally cheesy, over-the-top movie, that is, indeed, what it is, but there are big problems here. Read more
