5.0 out of 5 stars House Rabbit Handbook: How to Live with an Urban Rabbit, 3 Feb 2003
An excellent read.
I have kept pet rabbits over the last 15 years and it started off as a childhood hobby. My 1st rabbit live to be 11 years old, but after reading this book I felt rather sad, as I now know his quality of live could have been so much better. I recently brought 'The Complete House Rabbit Guide' from my local pet shop and it inspired me to read more. After reading all the other customer reviews regarding 'House Rabbit Handbook: How to Live with an Urban Rabbit' I knew this was a book I had to read. It exceeded my expectations, once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. It is filled with useful information that your normal run of the mill book just wouldn’t even touch on. The book also includes stories of different bunnies and their exploits, which entices you to discover your own bunny’s unique personality. My 5-month-old rabbit ‘Pippin’ has already benefited from the book and looks forward to a long, happy and fulfilled life!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very "American" for the UK market, but stunning nevertheless, 23 Mar 1999
By A Customer
The houserabbit movement in Great Britain is a few years behind that in the USA but catching up rapidly.

We don't have a "home grown" comprehensive and adult orientated reference book devoted to indoor rabbit companions, and so the British Houserabbit Association strongly recommends the House Rabbit Handbook.

The book is so easy to read and enjoy, it's remarkably easy to miss some of the absolute gems of information that are sometimes just mentioned in passing, which is why I read and re-read my copy several times a year!

Criticisms.... very few. First of all, I miss the "housebunny profiles" which featured in earlier editions. Secondly, as the book now has an international readership, I feel that future editions really must mention some of the health issues facing owners of companion rabbits outside the USA. Specifically. Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD or RHD) and myxomatosis, both killer diseases for which vaccination is available (and highly recommended!) in Europe and some other countries outside the USA.

Similarly, complex issues about dental disease are skimmed over; and there is no advice for pet owners in countries other than the US where pet bunnies are often fed on "rabbit mixes" where the risk of selective feeding and nutritional deficiencies are so much greater than where pellets are more widely available.

However, these are minor criticisms that could easily be addressed in the next edition.

Congratulations should go to the author on her fabulous achievement, and the BHRA will continue to promote the "HRH" as essential reading.

Dr Linda Dykes President, British Houserabbit Association

5.0 out of 5 stars Bunnies!, 20 May 2002
By A Customer
These people obviously love their rabbits and it shows. The book is not just written like 'this is what you should feed rabbits..etc etc', but alos outlines ways to keep them happy mentally. It is quite funny in places and is very enjoyable to read.
