House of Lost Souls (Beyond Terror) [DVD
I'm assuming you've already read the basic synopsis, so - although this does have more of an early 80's look than its actual year of 1989,and the dubbing is atrocious, I found it surprisingly creepy. I don't normally find horror films frightening, but this definitely had its moments. The acting was ok, the scenery rather beautiful, the 'ghosts' had that indefinable something that gave it an edge, (or maybe it was watching it on my own, late at night, a week after we'd been burgled!!).
There was too much running up and down stairs, but it was at least in context. Wonderful NOT to have a horror film full of annoying egotistical teens that you itch to see killed off, and action and decisions that do hang together logically.
The only plot issue I had was in the final frame, which, for me, featured the wrong boy. Now my version would have been much more terrifying to end with!
Gore content - highish. Not satisfying enough for hard-core gore-fiends, but plenty for everyone else.
Probably one of those films that are quite scary if watched on your own, but a group could relish the comedy aspects. No special extras. (I rarely watch them anyway).
