The movie is quite okay, but not as good as the first part. There are some good effects. The set is great... very imaginative. The lighting & photography create the right mood, but the weakness is in the story. It can drive people up the wall. Some characters are very funny... but few bits are spooky in this entry. The acting is average... It could bore most viewers, so get it if you really are a fan of the House Series.

Disappointing 1 April 2005

Format:DVD
I found the sequel to the original House movie to be something of a let down, and on quite a large scale, I might add. This film is more comedy than horror, which I wasn't really expecting. The whole House series is designed to be linked with horror, not comedy. I mean, the main character digs up his 175 year old grandfather, who has managed to stay alive thanks to a magical skull artifact. I know, I know, it's just a film but it's a ridiculous plot.

Then his gd's arch-enemy comes back from the dead to regain the skull and they have to try and stop him. For too many periods in the film, there is weak acting and even weaker humour and no real suspense or gore. Although in most series' or trilogies the original is always the best (with a few exceptions), this sequel is not a very worthy one.

House 2:The second Story is more of an adventure comedy than a horror, but it does feature a large spooky house and zombies and monsters. There no real connection to the first film other than another great role for a 'Cheers' regular,John Ratzenberger. Ratzenberger plays an electrician who comes to the house and joins the two main heroes on an adventure into another dimension. He's only in the film for a crazy five or ten minutes but it's very funny just like the rest of the film.
There's no other movie like this, it's very rewatchable and deserves 5 stars. It makes a great double bill with the first slightly more serious House film.
