I was given a copy of this book as a birthday present, I hope it was intended as a joke,
For those of you uninititiated (ie. 99.9% of the population) think of house gymnastics as an extremely watered down version of the BBC advert of the guy running around rooftops.
I believe the book is a product of a website and university project, the wafer thin content would suggest that little has been added to this.
I dont believe many people will find the exercises practical or benficial. I appreciate that the authors tongue in cheek approach convey the sense that only limited utility will be derived from following its exercises, but even if taken as a satirical work on the home exercise theme it lacks any real edge or insights.
In the end the work is neither one thing or another, but what is a certainity is that it most definitly lacks the weight needed to carve out a genre of its own.

This book is the basic explanation of a sport. Therefore, this review needs no explanation of the book, which is very good, but an explanation of the sport to help you decide to buy this book. If you can remember when you were a child you could climb around all sorts of places. This sport reinvests that power allowing you to do things you never though possible, the obvious advantage being your increased strength after you passed the teens. There are obvious dangers in the sport but these can be avoided easily by following simple rules.
Buy this book. Practice the sport. Apply it everywhere.

I couldnt work out to begin with what angle this book was trying to take. It is obvious that climbing around furniture is not going to be considered by many an actual 'sport'. I have seen that the book is held under the humour section which is probably the most appropriate place for it, however dont actually expect anything funny beyond the initial ideas of the 'sport'. I didnt really think the book offered enough depth to really maximise its potential, and it dont feel that i would ever look back over it again. It is a quirky book, that may have a limited appeal to a few but that in my opinion does not justify the price.

House Gymnastics, the book, is everything it states on the cover. It is also an amusing, well constructed book detailing the concept and ethos of House Gymnastics. Read more
