2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the black jewels trilogy, 26 Dec 2003
By A Customer
I found this new "fae" trilogy from Anne Bishop to be decidedly less good than her first (the black jewels trilogy) and the standalone novel "The invisible ring", placed in the world of the "blood". The first book in the trilogy (pillars of the earth) was something of a disappointment to me and I am sad to say that the trilogy doesn't improve, rather the opposite. The world of the fae is much less original and interesting than that of the blood and at the end of the first book they appear to be little more than a bunch of spoiled brats. This fortunately improves some in this last installment, but it's hardly enough to lift the book. There are many characters, most of them female, but the vast majority is without depth. The common theme of the book is that all the females are strong and powerful, which at some point or other ends up scaring all the male characters. The plot itself is repetitive and not very original and the "bad guys" are just that, with no depth whatsoever.
All in all the book is no worse than the second installment of the trilogy, however, so those who, for some reason, very much liked the second part will probably not be disappointed by "The House of Gaian".
To summarise, a disappointing book from an author who definately can do better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most enjoyable!, 26 Sep 2005

A gripping fantasy trilogy, rich in plot and character. But what makes Anne Bishop stand out from the rest is the fantastic way she can weave a little dry humour into her characters.

The only dissapointing thing being there wasn't more of it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars An action filled ending, 9 Oct 2003
By Katrine Berg "book addict" (Copenhagen, Denmark) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Hunter is making ready to leave the west to gather an army that can fight against the Master Inquisitor. She has the power to force the fae into the fight, but there is a new Lady of the Moon, who might use her power to oppose this. And what about the Daughters and Sons of the Mother, will they leand their aid to the course ? Because the Master Inquisitor has found a new way to twist the magic he steals.
The story includes all the characters we already know (and love) and introduces a few new important ones. The pace of the story is stunning, and it can at times be hard to follow because it jumps between people and places. So it thakes some concentration.
But I like the story and you get the answers you have been waiting for: The story about the beginning of the fae and the witches.
