I never thought I'd see the light of day when a film such as House by the Cemetery would get such a great release, with so many great extras.

The transfer is about as good as your gonna get, very natural, no DNR, no messing, just a pure Hi-Def transfer. Blue Underground really know how to make the most of their blu ray releases. It's also great that every single one of their blu rays, is REGION FREE.

Whats most astonishing of all, is that ALL the special features are presented in Hi-Def.

And boy, do we get plenty.

"Meet the Boyles" - Interviews with Stars Catriona MacColl and Paolo Malco
"Children of the Night" - Interviews with Stars Giovanni Frezza and Silvia Collatina
"Tales of Laura Gittleson" - Interview with Star Dagmar Lassander
"My Time With Terror" - Interview with Star Carlo De Mejo
"A Haunted House Story" - Interviews with Co-Writers Dardano Sacchetti and Elisa Briganti
"To Build a Better Death Trap" - Interviews with Cinematographer Sergio Salvati, Special Make-Up Effects Artist Maurizio Trani, Special Effects Artist Gino De Rossi, and Actor Giovanni De Nava
Deleted Scene
Theatrical Trailers
TV Spot
Poster & Still Gallery.

Audio is also in both Italian mono with subtitles, and English 2.0 DTS. No compressed 5.1 DTS here, it is what it is.

I mean seriously, if your a fan of this film, what more do you want? This is pretty much definitive. It's extremely doubtful that a better version will come along, at least in terms of a physical format. It's one of those releases where, upon purchase, you can either sell your old dvd version or give it away to a friend.

I just hope that Blue Underground do a similar release with The Beyond [Blu-ray] [1981] (after Arrow screwed it up, just read the reviews for yourself, a monochrome opening instead of sepia, sheesh) and as they are greatly improving with their blu rays, needless to say I'm pretty excited to see what's next in store in the future (it really is a shame that they don't own the rights to Suspiria, because the current version we have now is absolute rubbish).

Next up, Zombie Flesh Eaters, although it's more expensive (it's a double disc set!) so when I've managed to save up after paying the bills, I will definitely be buying that, as pretty much all previous releases haven't been so great, and it's never really had that much of a great transfer that it obviously deserves.

I like this film. I like the cool and dead looking creature, Dr. Freudstein. I also enjoy the dark synth and atmospheric
music of Walter Rizzati. Some people may think or thought it was the music of frequent Fulci collaborator,Fabio Frizzi, but
it is not.Their music actually sound quite similar in this film, so some may mistake it for Frizzi music.

Picture quality: 4/5

The picture quality was greatly improved from my Anchor Bay DVD. There is problems with DNR and noise like Zombi 2,
but not as much problems like Zombi 2. I think Zombi 2 has poorer and more use of DNR than The House by the
Cemetery.

The film grain is actually mostly noise mixed with grain. The DNR is noticable, but i have seen worse use of it as i said.
The things that are improved compared to the DVD is: black levels, blood & gore effects, colours, details and
sharpness.

Audio quality: 3.5/5

The English dub in the DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Dolby Surround remix, is actually a bit disappointing to me. I thought
the mix would sound a bit clearer music wise and with more bass. Yes, there is some Stereo effects and such. At least it
sounds improved compared to the lossy Dolby Surround 2.0 mix on the DVD.

Film: 4/5
Overall: 4/5

house by the cemetery is one of the finest italian horror films ever made and it has been given a terrific high def makeover by blue underground. this film has always been treated badly with previous dvd releases all being of questionable quality, but finally we have a version to be proud of. the picture quality is a vast improvement on the standard dvd versions and the colours look stunning. yes there is quite a lot of grain to be found but, that just adds to the overall feel of the movie. well done blue underground for delivering a decent blu ray version of this fulci classic.
