Synopsis

Amazon.com Review
"I'm an expert in parties and boys. I'm a Bunny! Men write to me from prison--sometimes in their own blood!" So declares ex-Playboy Bunny Shelley, tossed out of the Mansion by a rival for her advanced age (27--"59 in bunny years," she's told). As played by the utterly fearless and appealing Anna Faris, Shelley becomes an unlikely post-feminist heroine, who finds a great use for her not-too-considerable expertise: being sexy. With nowhere else to live, Shelley finds herself as the house mother for a dying sorority, the Zetas, who are the audience for the rallying cry above. And the slightly misfit sisters, though wary, end up giving Shelley a sisterhood she could never have built back at the Grotto. To help build up the sorority, Shelley gives the young women her own peculiar tutorials in charm school--helping them raise their campus profile and recruit new pledges in the process. "When I'm done, every girl on campus will want to pledge Zeta!" Ignore her at your peril, girls. If the formula is a bit predictable, the pace is lively and the cast, headed by the wide-eyed Faris, is aces. American Idol contestant Katharine McPhee is a natural on camera, as is Rumer Willis, daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. The supporting cast includes the capable Colin Hanks and Beverly D'Angelo, and a bit too much screen time for the real-life Hugh Hefner, who maybe should have stayed on the set of The Girls Next Door. Still, Faris channels the cheerful, girly determination of Reese Witherspoon's Elle Woods--no surprise since The House Bunny was cowritten by Kirsten Smith, who wrote Legally Blonde. Fans of silly romances, hop to it.--A.T. Hurley

5.0 out of 5 stars The House Bunny is a bundle of fun!, 3 Sep 2009
This review is from: The House Bunny [DVD] [2009] (DVD)
The house bunny at first glance is a teen comedy about bunny girls at the playboy mansion. But dig a little deeper and you will see many hidden meanings about life. This is a fun film which demonstrates that it is not only clueless big busted blondes that have fun. Anna Faris plays Shelley perfectly...she is simple, and has only what you would consider "bunny girl" traits to her personality. But stepping out of the playboy mansion she realises that there is more to life and starts to help a sorority group of girls who are intelligent but could do with a lesson in how to shop and style! It's a fun film that girls will like more than they first thought...and the boyfriends will watch for the eye candy! A truly win-win situation.

3.0 out of 5 stars good (but I thought it would be funnier), 19 July 2009

I think Anna Farris is great but I felt that this film was a bit average. There are some really funny moments but on the whole the film was just ok. I would recommend it though (particularly for the 'remembering names scene').

2.0 out of 5 stars A poor Legally Blond / Old School, 2 Aug 2009
This review is from: The House Bunny [DVD] [2009] (DVD)
Not half as funny as other films in this Genre. This is a real shame as the idea is good and promises so much. It seems Director Fred Wolf has really messed up linking a journey that should be more funny.

That said, its not all bad. Don't get me wrong, as a DVD to watch on a bored night in with a bag of popcorn with a loved one, its fun and leaves you with a smile. Also, Anna Farris puts her all into the part and performs admirably and with energy despite the cardboard actors around her. But its a missed opportunity where Legally Blonde, Animal House, Old School etc does so much better.
