I read a lot. I mean a LOT. This book captured my attention from the very beginning when Joseph is in the psychologist's office. His memories of the evening he was viciously attacked and his wife brutally murdered were very vivid. I could easily follow the chain of events in my imagination. I loved the author's skillful way of pulling you into the story so quickly and easily.

I have the kindle for android app on my phone, so I took it everywhere with me. I cooked and did menial chores with my phone in front of my face. I couldn't seem to put it down, and on the rare occasion that I had to, I was continually wondering what was going to happen next.

Needless to say, I loved the book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a suspenseful dark thriller.

A really enjoyable suspense mystery that was difficult to put down. It did get off to a slow start and at times it did seem like that it was not going anywhere, but that's because it was building up to a big unpredictable ending.

Joseph Lee has been something of a recluse since the murder of his wife, for which he was not charged for but his neighbours believe he is still guilty. However a new couple move into House 23 and go out of their way to befriend Joseph. Lets just say that they are not all that they seem, but that's not the whole story. Joseph is a character you can root for, while you can see why he liked his new friends before the truth starts coming out.

Overall it is a good read which is comfortable to read when it's building up to something and really gripping when a major event is happening. The ending was more dramatic than I had been expecting and was a complete surprise. Well worth reading.

This book certainly has all the aspects of a thriller. A man's (Joseph Lee) wife is murdered. He is accused of killing her. After investigations he's acquitted but the people in his town still feel that he did it. Then he meets Riso and his wife, Zala, who is the spitting image of Joseph's dead wife. This is where the thrills begin. You certainly keep going because you want to know what happens next. I like the construction of the chapters. They are short and encourage you to turn the pages for more. The plot is good; however, i would have preferred that no bad language was used. For me it spoilt the flow of the language and was not necessary. However, this plot would be great in a feature film.

I got to page 65 before deciding that my life is just too short! So it's only fair to say that I'm reviewing only the first 65 pages.
Whilst I imagine there's a good plot here and undoubtedly some twists along the way, I just don't care. The main character Joseph Lee is an insufferable and self-absorbed oik and I really couldn't care less about his fate. I had sympathy for his loss following his wife's murder, but he quickly forgot his grief at the appearance of a neighbour bearing an uncanny resemblance to his late wife. The author left me with no compassion once Joseph called her his "ex-wife" in his mind, and why would a widower think of her by her Christian and surname? There were so many passages that not only didn't ring true, but beggared belief, and I did something that I so rarely do- I gave up on a book. I had another look at the reviews before abandoning it though, and once I realised that the same author wrote Fairwood, another struggle, I decided not to waste any more of my time.
It's interesting to see that Eli Yance is supposed to be a pseudonym of a best-selling horror writer- I'd like to respectfully suggest that Mr. Yance be consigned to the way of all things and the best-selling author be allowed to write his/her best-selling work.

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down for a moment and found myself open mouthed whilst reading when the twist hit.

This was brilliantly written and I was totally enthralled by Joseph Lee's character beginning to end..

Would highly recommend.

I was hooked with this novel from start to finish. The last quarter of this novel was not what I expected. Brilliant.

I really enjoyed the last book by Yance so picked this up when I saw it. it's not as violent as Consequence, but is just as intense. The story is deep and involving and there is a nice twist at the end (as there was with Consequence) which rounds the book off nicely.

Great Read!
