5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me going..... 30 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover
I have read quite a few books. So these days if a book doesn't come up to scratch I don't bother reading it.This isn't the case with this novel. It was back to an old Maggie she seemed to have lost track of in the last 2 novels. She is on the crime scene. The story is interlaced quite well.It kept me guessing right up until the end of the novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alex Kava - Hotwire 8 April 2012
By molko VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
This is the 9th book in Alex Kava's Maggie O'Dell series. This time we have two story lines running side by side. The first involves a group of teens who decide to get high in the woods and end up witnessing some strange lights and are attacked. Maggie has to deduce whether it was just an hallucination from the drugs or something more sinister, and also find out why the surviving teens seem to be dying one by one.

Secondly we meet up with Benjamin Platt as he investigates a recent viral outbreak at a school, leading him into some murky government secrets and placing his life on the line. Inevitably the two stories eventually meet up in a pretty exciting finale.

What we have here is perhaps not a particularly believable book. It seems Kava has started straying away from the mass murderers' of O'Dell's past and has begun playing around with the idea of government secrets and conspiracy theories. It's all pretty enjoyable but not exactly prize winning stuff, but if it's a fast paced thrilling book you're looking for, you'll find it here with 'Hotwire'. I've said it before and I'll make the point again that Kava reminds me of James Patterson. With her ability to keep the thrills and action coming, so if you're of a fan of James Patterson's more recent efforts you may well be impressed with this one.

I really enjoyed this book and if you have read any others by this author then you will know the plots are always very good. This one was more sci-fi in parts than others and for this reason I found it, in the beginning, a little more difficult to get in to but I am glad that I stuck with it because it ended up as good as all the rest.

A talented writer with some great characterisations. I thought the plot ideas were imaginative but felt she had two ideas, the teenagers being electrocuted and the food poisoning... Read more

This is a good crime story. Sound, and interesting. I enjoyed reading it, and wasn't tempted, as I sometimes am, to give up on it. I read through to the end and loved it.
