It has come to our attention that Hottie thermal packs are being damaged by use in the small chamber microwave ovens that are now on the market. The damage appears as holes of melted plastic in one or more corners of the plastic pouch. This may occur on the first time of use, and may therefore easily be mistaken for a manufacturing defect.
The damage occurs when the Hottie thermal pack is unable to rotate freely. The pack does not need to become trapped to cause this damage, which may in some cases result from a very short interruption to rotation.
If your microwave oven is small--17 litre or less--or your turntable is less than 25 cm diameter or rotation of the pack is impeded in any way, you should not use that microwave to heat your Hottie in the normal way.
It is possible to gently roll your thermal pack and secure with an elastic band. Some customers have found this satisfactory in smaller microwaves.
From March 1st 2011, we will no longer replace free of charge thermal packs which show this type of damage. We thank the many loyal customers whose feedback has helped us identify the cause of this problem.
We are working to produce a thermal pack which will both fit smaller microwave ovens and maintain the high standards of warmth, comfort and safety our customers have come to expect from Hotties.
Warning: Do not overheat. Warming this product to high temperatures beyond instructions can lead to the leakage of hot and hazardous liquid.
If your microwave oven has a capacity of 17 litres or smaller, with a chamber dimension width that prevents the Hottie rotating freely, this product will not be suitable.

Heats quickly (2 minutes 20 seconds) in the microwave and stays warm all night. No worries about hot water leaking and scalding skin. I use it every night for about 9 months of the year and it lasts for several years. I am very satisfied with my Hottie.

disregard the review which say these microwavable heat pads don't work, they do i have used them for years and if heated correctly depending on your microwave they should last for years. if you are using a high powered microwave you should only heat the pads for one minute each side,if still not warm enough increase by 15 seconds at a time, you have to check you are not overheating other wise the pad will burst.Will stay warm for about two hours in the cover.
these microwave heat pads are great when you feel cold just hug one of these , use them to heat your bed, great for joint aches.
also ideal for keeping takeaway food warm, use the heat pad without the cover in between containers to keep food warm when travelling
There is a website that sells spare Hotties heat pads in case of acccidental overheating.

Do not buy this and expect it to be like a traditional hot water bottle as is is not. Does not do exactly as it says, this is due to safety I guess. This is the second one I have and they 'warm' the childrens beds. As one of the other reviews states, they aren't for adults as they do not get hot enough, but ideal for children.
