Product Description

Safety Warning

Read instructions carefully

Special Precautionary Notice

It has come to our attention that Hottie thermal packs are being damaged by use in the small chamber microwave ovens that are now on the market. The damage appears as holes of melted plastic in one or more corners of the plastic pouch. This may occur on the first time of use, and may therefore easily be mistaken for a manufacturing defect.

The damage occurs when the Hottie thermal pack is unable to rotate freely. The pack does not need to become trapped to cause this damage, which may in some cases result from a very short interruption to rotation.

If your microwave oven is small--17 litre or less--or your turntable is less than 25 cm diameter or rotation of the pack is impeded in any way, you should not use that microwave to heat your Hottie in the normal way.

It is possible to gently roll your thermal pack and secure with an elastic band. Some customers have found this satisfactory in smaller microwaves.

From March 1st 2011, we will no longer replace free of charge thermal packs which show this type of damage. We thank the many loyal customers whose feedback has helped us identify the cause of this problem.

We are working to produce a thermal pack which will both fit smaller microwave ovens and maintain the high standards of warmth, comfort and safety our customers have come to expect from Hotties.

Warning: Do not overheat. Warming this product to high temperatures beyond instructions can lead to the leakage of hot and hazardous liquid.

If your microwave oven has a capacity of 17 litres or smaller, with a chamber dimension width that prevents the Hottie rotating freely, this product will not be suitable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works well but failure rate too high. 22 Mar 2010
Verified Purchase
Just follow the instructions exactly and it gets nice and hot inside with the acrylic fleece cover providing safe protection and dissipating the heat uniformly so it's pleasantly warm on the outside. Just by way of an example, 70 seconds on one side, turn over, and a further 70 seconds on the other side in a 900 watt microwave produces a perfect result.

UPDATE 30 JUNE 2012. Having written the above comments over 2 years ago they still hold true but we have noted that out of the 3 units bought over this period of time 2 of them have sprung a leak. They don't seem to be very robust and the conclusion is that they are extremely sensitive to time in the microwave. Our unit has a digital display but after 60 seconds it can only be set in 10 second increments so it's very difficult to fine tune because 2 minutes at 900 watts doesn't generate enough heat whereas 2 minutes 20 seconds is perfect but, in the long term, leads to failure in the bag seal. The best compromise we find now with the survivor is to do 60 seconds on one side and then 70 seconds on the other but I just don't think the product should be as vulnerable or as fragile as that. The other option is to reduce the microwave power so it's less sensitive to a precise length of time but then it takes longer to generate the same heat; it would be just as quick to boil a kettle and use a traditional hot water bottle. By the way, if you've got a microwave with an analogue mechanical dial you stand no real chance of consistently getting the time setting right on high power because this will be just too crude for the necessary fine tuning, so I would suggest reducing power to about 600 watts if you can and take longer on the timer.

5.0 out of 5 stars comfortable heat 6 Feb 2011
By dizzy
I love this hot water bottle. It gives gives long lasting heat which I find very comforting. You must follow the instructions to avoid spoiling the bottle. When it comes out from the microwave you might think it is not too hot,but when it has been in bed a few minutes thats when the heat comes through and you would not want it any hotter and the heat lasts well into the night. I am very pleased with this and have given it to friends for a present and they have been very pleased

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable response! 30 Oct 2012

Bought this product last week as my husband was suffering nerve pain and the warmth made a real difference. I paid for first class postage and the hottie arrived on Friday. I carefully read the instructions and heated the hottie for 1 minute on either side, after less than an hour my husband realised that it was leaking and on closer examination we spotted a clear puncture mark in the plastic inner. I got in touch with Amazon and my money was refunded immediately with no problem. I also contacted the manufacturer to let them know what had happened. Today we were rung by a lady from the firm who was less than helpful! In a very high handed manner she blamed us for the problem! She told us in great detail what we had done wrong, how she knew this from so many miles a way I don't know! We pointed out that we had not done any of the things she said but she refused to listen. She also insisted that we must have heated it in a small microwave- ours is at least of average size. We simply could not believe the level of customer service from this firm and think that Amazon should consider whether to use this firm.

1.0 out of 5 stars beware scalding possible 12 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase
Used it four times then it burst. Beware there is liquid n these that can scald if released. It is possible I overheated it but by no more than half a minute. Microwaves do not give half minute marks on setting controls and are oft quite small so mistakes are reasonably likely. To my mind the error margin is way too small given the potential for serious scalding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hottie Heaven 20 Jan 2012
Bought 2 Hotties and now use them both myself! Will probably have to buy another for the intended recipient of a gift.
Very easy to use and stays hot far longer than normal hot water bottle. Initially I was disappointed that it appeared not to be hot enough but that is just the lambswool cover insulating me from a VERY hot bag. The cover does the job perfectly as gives good gentle safe comforting warmth for hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea 10 Dec 2010
Now here's a great product- a hot water bottle that stays hot and you never have to fill it up! Simply put in the microwave and place it in the spot you need the heat. Here's what I like best about it...

-you never have to refill it or empty it
-it heats up in minutes in the microwave
-it stays warm for hours
-the outside of the bottle is soft unlike traditional rubber water bottles- choose the cover you like the best!

What more can I say- its a lifesaver for those in pain- or makes a great gift too. Those suffering from back pain might also want to check out Treat Your Own Spinal Stenosis.
