We've had one of these for about 2 months now and so far all has been well (although I have read negative reviews about reliability)

As for performance I have no complaints at all. It washes superbly and is extremely quiet (I suggest the reviewer who's machine sounds like a pnumatic drill gets it checked out as its likely faulty). For the most part the only sound you can here is the water sloshing about, except when it spins at 1600 but even then it is quieter than other machines (including our old 1200 spin one)

As for the drying function I find that excellent as well. It may not match the performance of a seperate dryer (show me a washer-dryer that does). However we regulary wash 3 bath towels/2 hand towels or a full set of queensize bed linnen with a 'sensor dry' (hanger dry setting)and it comes out perfectly dry. We find that with the 1600 spin it is almost unneccesary to dry most things (i.e. shirts/t shirts/underwear) as spin is so efficient that they dry within a couple of hours of coming out.

I dont know wether the problems others are having are due to overloading the machine (we follow the instructions re: load sizes fairly rigidly) but we have found it to be very good.

The most negative point about this machine is the slight nervousness in the back of my mind planted by the negative reviews I've read which so far (touch wood!) have proved unfounded!

I've given it a 5* rating based on the fact I have had nothing to complain about so far.

Addendum - having now had this product for nearly a year I thought I'd add some more comments. Although we are still happy with the overall performance we started to notice it getting noisier when it was spinning at the full 1600revs. We originally intended to have this on overnight (as we are on economy 7) but we have now stopped doing this. It seems to be worst when you put the dryer on so we now only do this when we are out. I intent to have the engineer out to check if there is a fault in the next couple of weeks before the warrantly runs out so will update again then.

If this was a washer only, it would have won 5 stars. Dryer almost cost it 2. It is however a great looking machine with its neon blue info display and sleek flat controls and really is "super silent" - you only remember that it's running when it begins the spin program. Clothes are washed very well (even at 30 degs! :-) )and the 1600 spin leaves the items with mininum water retained. This is why it's all the more frustrating to find that after 3, yes THREE hours of condenser drying, the clothes are usually still damp! The only time i have considered them sufficiently dry is with a half load (just 3pairs of jeans). Buy as a washer with an occasional use emergency dryer thrown in and you'll be happy! Or just buy the identical looking wash only model.

We have one of these installed in our kitchen and can say without doubt that it is the loudest washing maching we have ever heard. Super silent my foot - it's like having a bunch of workmen in the kitchen with a pneumatic road drill. Our kitchen is a fair size and adjoins the open plan dining room (also a good size), yet when the Hotpoint is on it becomes nigh on impossible to conduct dining conversation or hear the television. Calling it 'Super Silent' must be the most blatant case of misleading advertising ever. If I were you, I'd buy a Bosch or Miele or something with real build quality. A few years back we also had a Hotpoint Washer Dryer, only to discover that it was built to break down - every six months the fluff filter would clogg and the machine would stop working. The filter was inside the machine and inaccessible which meant a call to Hotpoint service dept every time. Just a cheap ploy by Hotpoint to fleece its customer with service charges twice a year. Avoid them like the plague!
