I purchased the Lifestyle Guide as it seemed to me to provide bigger and better coverage than the smaller AA Hotel Guide, and in many respects this is achieved and I am happy to own, and use it. However, the slight downside is that whereas the "original" AA Guide lists Hotels by County the Lifestyle guide does not - therefore unless you know what, and where you are looking for, the Lifestyle Guide does not help. To overcome this problem I have retained the old AA Guide which enables me to trawl for hotels in an area - having then selected a handful of hotels I can then review them using the Lifestyle guide which is then much easier to use.

This is claimed to be the most comprehensive hotel guide available covering hotels in the UK and Eire.It is impressive with helpful explanations of the basis used by the AA for grading hotels.There is useful information about hotel groups operating in the UK and Eire.Hotel entries are clearly set out with details of facilities available travel directions and sometimes pricing.A picture of an establishment is often shown.Some hotel chains notably Hilton do not appear in the guide.This may be because hoteliers have to pay for an entry.Unfortunately the hotel descriptions are written by the establishment and not the AA so care needs to be taken before making a booking.There is some evidence of inconsistency in the hotel and restaurant gradings given by the AA.It is not very clear how you advise the AA if you are not happy with a hotel or its grading(as opposed to recommending a hotel).

A good selection of hotels in the book but is seriously let down by the lack of details in the hotel facilites section of the listings. I also have the AA Golf Course Guide 2010 and that gives you all the details you want. This hotel guide does not.

The layout is not as good as previous editions, but the book is always handy to look out when looking for good quality holidays in the UK.
