The Buchanan sound is unique: heartbreaking, searing solos, trademark shimmering tone, gorgeous melodies and a mixture of lightning quickness and technical creativity that mark him as a wizard of the instrument. 5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar tornado 18 Oct 2008
By xao-lin
Format:Audio CD
This would turn out to be the late Roy Buchanan's last album, and it's a masterpiece. Strange, as Roy got older, he seemed to get less mellow! This record moves along at a hundred miles an hour, right from the opener "High Wire" through to the almost over the top "Flash Chordin'", slowing down once or twice along the way with songs like "Sunset Over Broadway". The rhythm section is a powerful combination of Larry Exum on bass, and Morris Jennings on drums, a rumbling, deep beat through which Roy's guitar weaves. And on keyboards, the late Stan Szelest, who would go on to replace Richard Manuel in the latter day line-up of The Band.

5.0 out of 5 stars His last Opus! 20 Aug 2005
By Hiram Gomez Pardo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This was pitifully the last recording of this enfant terrible of the Rock: Roy Buchanan who still had so much to give and so much to say. He lefts us in a very early age.

This album contains one of the Best Blues of hos persona career: Blues lover, extraordinary.

We must mention the special version of 25 miles a remake of the original Soul singer Edwin Star of 1969.

But there is still more: The instrumental Hot wires is atrue tour de force all the way; his flamboyant Flash Chordin, Country Boogie and the enrapturing Sunset over Broadway.

Go for this album it's a must in your personal collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roy's swan song... 23 Feb 2000
By Bete Noire - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Two of the stars on this album are not with us anymore:Roy,the genius, and Stan Szelest, his keyboard player. In many ways, this is a culmination of Buchanan's career, featuring four instrumentals, and a number of guest vocalists, such as:Kanika Kress and John Sayles. The style is exactly what we have become accustomed to expect from this guitar wiz(who also sings):lots of soul and scorching guitar that will leave your rock rolling.Roy Buchanan the master, gone but not forgotten...
5.0 out of 5 stars Best of his career 31 Dec 2009
By Glenn Fink - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The last 3 albums Roy made were made in the 80's for the Alligator label. Those 3 albums are the best of his career in my opinion (though "Second Album" from 1973 also deserves praise). The Hot Wires album is memorable, cohesive, and full of unbelievably stellar moments!
I would recommend Roy's live albums first, but this one's my favorite of all his albums. And incidentally the Sweet Dreams Anthology is a great distillation of his career before the Alligator years.
