I bought this Hot Wheels handbook for my four year old son--yes I said FOUR year old--and he loves it! Actually, buying it for him was not my idea, but his. He's a HUGE vehicle fanatic--cars, trains, planes--you name it, he loves it! He is particularly fond of cars, and already has an extensive die cast car collection--which, of course, includes many, many Hot Wheels cars. This handbook is basically a guide to Hot Wheels' massive inventory of die cast vehicles.
The book starts out with some "fun" (for my son, NOT me! LOL) facts about Hot Wheels, such as the fact that "since 1968, more than 800 models and 11,000 variations...of Hot Wheels cars have been created." It then proceeds to tell you a little about the Hot Wheels cars history--including the fact that Hot Wheels released it' first cars in 1968. After this initial general information section, the book is then divided into sections based on car types; city cars, imagination cars, racing cars, stunt cars, and showroom cars. In each section several cars are listed and the reader is given a plethora of intelligence about the car, including year of "birth", birthplace, designer, and details about the car's specialty. The last pages of the book contain, what I call, promotional information about various Hot Wheels racing tracks etc.
You might think that this book would be too boring to entertain a child as young as my son--you'd be wrong. He loves this book so much, he even has me read it to him at night in place of his bedtime story--oftentimes in ADDITION to his bedtime story. LOL This handbook is a great informational tool for anyone who collects, or is interested in collecting, the Hot Wheels vehicles, and even for those who just generally enjoy cars. It certainly is a great marketing too for Hot Wheels, because since I purchased this book, my son has picked out a few cars for me to buy for him to add to his collection. Sigh So, from my POV this book rates 4 stars, from my son's, it's a definite 5 star product. Haha
