3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good 5 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
As something of a fan of the Hammond B3 organ, I've found it surprisingly difficult to find many good albums of the genre, but this one's not bad at all, with Ms. Dennerlein ably supported by Andy Sheppard (saxes), Mitch Watkins (electric guitar) and some nifty black dude called Mark Mondesir (drums).

It's all instrumental, mostly originals and spoilt only by the rather harsh digital recording (in Ludwigsburg, Germany). Not much more to say about it really, but definitely worth checking out and to my ears rather more accessible musically than what I've heard of her later material.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT your standard jazz organ combo... 30 Aug 2011
By 50 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
As much as I love Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Groove Holmes, etc., let's face it: much of their repertoire and the way they handled it was very similar. Not so with this recording: with the exception of "Killer Joe" (which IS standard fare for jazz organists), the music on this CD takes jazz organ in a refreshingly different direction while still grooving just as well as anyone ever has. Check out the samples and you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about. I strongly recommend this for any jazz organ fan looking for something outside the norm: the compositions are interesting and the musicianship is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent jazz organ work! 27 Feb 2006
By Bob Heath - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Released on the Enja label this shows Barbara at her most creative, along with sidemen Andy Sheppard on saxes and Mitch Watkins on guitar. The music is often blue or funky and the quality of soloing is superb. Barbara's footpedal bass work is worth the price of the CD alone! Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot stuff INDEED 17 Jun 2012
By Hammer + Jazz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
In addition to being a super German Knockout , Ms. Dannerlein is one heck of a musician . Her organ pedal bass sounds amazingly like an acoustic double bass . She can comp with it , swing and solo (just as any fine acoustic bass player would) as well . The woman writes great songs , can play the stuffing out of that Hammond organ and fusion synth and knows GREAT jazz musicians . Each of the following folks plays their respective hearts out throughout . Mitch Watkins (guitar) , Mark Mondesir (drums) ans Andy Sheppard (tenor saxaphone) . Get this one yesterday if possible .
