What can you say about this band? In my opinion they should have been the biggest band in the world, yet it never happened for them. This album shows how good UFO are. If you don't believe me, go and see them. They still make great albums, and live they put on one of the best shows you will see in rock.

Hot 'N' Live is a great collection of live recordings covering UFO's years with German guitar god Michael Schenker, and the years following his departure when they brought in old friend Paul Chapman. The first disc covers the Schenker years 74-78 and is an excellent record of how they improved steadily as a live force, which culminated in their live classic Strangers In The Night , still considered the greatest live album by many in the rock world. There are a few songs not covered here , Love To Love, Only You Can Rock Me, Hot And Ready that should be , but the first disc is a great collection of songs from Phenomenon through Obsession (with Danny Peyronel on board for keyboards during the No Heavy Petting year) an excellent disc worth the price of this collection by itself. The second disc covers the years 80-83, the Chapman years, and is a very good disc . I like the original stuff Chapman did ,and their cover of Mystery Train is the highlight of the disc for me. I will never understand why they put the recordings of the classic Schenker songs mentioned earlier, on this disc with Chapman playing lead. To me he destroys them, but that's my opinion. Overall a great two disc collection that should be owned by every fan of live Rock&Roll . There's even a new interview with the legendary Pete Way. And the liner notes tell you who plays on each song. BUY THIS CD.

This gets 4 stars from me because it actually only has a few "previously unreleased" tracks - from a Tonka gig at the Marquee in November 1980. (You'll be familiar with all the rest already, so I'll ignore 'em.)

There were 3 gigs set up at this fantastic little venue in the heart of London on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights - ostensibly as a "thank you" to fans (as usual, a "thank you" to London fans!) but although the liner notes state that the set compromised mainly of NPtR material, you can see that this was a run-out for material from TWTWATI - although that album wouldn't be released for another couple of months. Certainly the set didn't include these songs when I saw the band a couple of weeks previously in Aberdeen. All good stuff, and a welcome addition to the sparsely populated record of Tonka-era live material.

Anyway, the liner notes contain an interview with Mr PF Way Esq., and cover the entire history of the band during his first tenure - although obviously not in great depth. A few nice pictures, too.

Notably, the proper UFO logo is used on the artwork, which is hugely welcome as it is a design classic in itself. The CGI-looking logo that's been in use for the last decade is naff. Please never let me see it again.

Overall, just about worth buying - but certainly not at the import price of £30-odd currently being shown on Amazon.
