Hot Enough For June - Directed by Ralph Thomas who directed Dirk Bogarde in the 'Doctor' films, Campbell's Kingdom and the High Bright Sun, is a light-hearted look at the spying game. Bogarde plays Nicholas Whistler - an out-of-work writer who is fluent in Czech. Out of the blue he lands a job with Robert Morley - supposedly an industrialist and sent to Prague. In reality, Morely works for British Intelligence and unwittingly, Bogarde becomes involved in espionage behind the Iron Curtain. This movie is typical of the spy genre of '60s inspired by the exploits of Sean Connery as 007, but Bogarde (code named 008) is no James Bond. However, it is a very polished film with cameo performances by John Le Mesurier and Leo McKern. The lovely Sylva Koscina (Deadlier Than The Male and A Lovely Way To Die) is Bogarde's love interest who happens to be the daughter of Morely's opposite number played by Leo McKern. One of film's endearing qualities, is the absence of graphic violence and dialogue that sometimes can be too real these days. A must for all Dirk Bogarde fans and for those who want something 'light', but very watchable.

I was surprised at how little this seems to have dated. Dirk is no hero, but he tries hard. It's the support cast that wins the day - Sylva Kochina is, as ever, gorgeous and funny, Morley, Mckern, Le Mes, are on top form. The plot, well, yes it's silly, but it works, and the locations are good. I enjoyed this all the way. The print and sound are good, and the price is right. BUy it and enjoy some old fashioned fun. (Unlike "Who was that lady" I saw yesterday-such a disapointment).

Dirk makes a great 008 replacement agent in this cold war Bond spoof. Great character actors provide wonderful supporting lines in this light-hearted espionage romp. A must see for spyaholics.

Hot enough for june
I saw this film when I was a teenager and it was great to see it again. Recommended for a light evenings entertainment.
