If you've seen "Hot in Cleveland", you'll know the premise by now - three friends, writer Melanie Moretti (Valerie Bertinelli), Joy Scroggs (Jane Leeves) the beautician whose clients have been stolen by someone else, and former daytime TV star Victoria Chase (Wendie Malick) moved to Cleveland on a whim after discovering they were attractive to men there. Once there, they took a house which came with live-in caretaker, Elka (Betty White).
This DVD box-set (containing the first ten episodes of Season 2) continues with the cliffhanger ending of Season 1. It has some of my favourite episodes that I've seen so far (from all episodes aired to date): "Bad Bromance" (where Melanie meets her boyfriend's mother, who instantly loathes her), "Hot for Lawyer" (where they threaten to ruin Elka's trial by flirting with her lawyer from the witness stand), the two-parter set in Los Angeles "I Love Lucci" (where Victoria's longtime rivalry with Susan Lucci - playing, you imagine, a very-much heightened version of herself - comes to the head), and "Dog Tricks, Sex Flicks, and Joy's Fix" (which is too complex to explain).
The writing seems to be even sharper than last season and the characters have been honed. This season, we see the women developing, with Joy having problems with her Green Card, Victoria losing all her money, Melanie asserting herself even more, and Elka being more developed as a character than simply "token sassy old lady".
I hope I'll soon be able to see part two of the season.
