Product Description

Product Description

In Horses Never Lie, renowned horse trainer Mark Rashid challenges the conventional wisdom of "alpha leadership" and teaches the reader to become a "passive leader"—a counterpart to the kind of horse other members of a herd choose to associate with and to follow. Applying Rashid’s principles and techniques helps cultivate horse personalities that are responsive and dependable regardless of the rider. Reliving Rashid’s experiences with him, you will come to feel the same sort of compassion and appreciation for your horses that you do for the people in your life. This new edition features added introductory notes for each chapter that contribute to a more complete understanding of Rashid’s methods and philosophy.

The words I could use to describe this book would include: inspiring, eye-opening, heart-warming, and enlightening. Horses Never Lie leads the way on horse training, despite the fact that it contains no 'techniques'. Mark Rashid argues against 'training techniques' and shatters the traditional ideal of becoming your horses dominant leader in order to gain his respect. Here, Mark clearly states the difference from becoming your horse's dominant/forced leader to becoming his chosen leader.

The stories Mark tells in his book brought tears to my eyes only because they were so inspiring. There really isn't any technique behind the way he trains horses. What his training is all about is 'attitude'. He believes that one would have to earn his horse's trust before any training can progress, then goes on to explain how trust can be earned from your horse. To support his view, he tells tales of problems that were solved based on trust and understanding. Mark states the importance of building a partnership based on trust rather than dominance so as to bring out the best of our horses.

His arguments are very logical too. Simply put, horses dislike a forced dominant figure as their responses will be out of fear. This is why we should let our horses choose us as their leaders instead of force our dominance over them. All the ways that this could be achieved are explained in this book.

There is nothing wrong with letting your horse have his way sometimes, it goes as far as proving that you are well worth the trust. I will definitely be reading Mark Rashid's other books. The world needs more people like him.

Excellent book that makes you rethink the way you interact evryday with your horse. Mark writes in a way that is easy to read and understand. This book gives you many real life ecounters of rider/horse situations that Mark has experienced in his life and the way he learnt to overcome any problems. Very thought provoking as well as an enjoyable read.

Wonderful! This is a necessity for all horse crazy people who really care about the way they care for, train, treat, and ride horses. Mark Rashid writes in a completely captivating manner and once you've started you wont want to put it down. He explains everything through short stories of his own experiences both good and bad and you really feel as though you are right there beside him, laughing and crying, it is breathtaking. This is definitely one to read for the equine enthusiast. You will possibly even recognise some of your own experiences through Mark's words and get an idea of how to put things right for yourself. I could not wait to read Mark's other two books.
