3.0 out of 5 stars Welcome, 9 Aug 2005
By Portaderry (Derry, N Ireland) - See all my reviews
I say 'welcome back' to this period drama which introduces us to Nigel Havers and Pam St Clement amongst others. It is an entertaining series but I have to agree with the other reviewer and say that it is much 'slower' in story line than, say, Secret Army. You sort of hope that each episode is going to be half-an-hour long and its a drawn out story of nearly an hour long. For those that don't quite know what this series is about, it is a cross between Take The High Road and Emmerdale Farm. Entertaining but only for fans of Havers etc. Good to see the BBC releasing it though.

3.0 out of 5 stars A horseman riding by ( very slowly!), 14 Feb 2005

At first this is a very dated 1970s BBC adaptation of very good Delderfield book. The accents are veruy overdone and the dialogue is almost Shakesperian, So a late 19th Century story from Devon with Shakespearian dialogue!!??

If you like Delderfield stick with it - it gets much better after the first two or three episodes

4.0 out of 5 stars A Horseman Riding HIGH, 6 Feb 2009
By R. R. Adams "Raffles" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I purchased this DVD set for my elderly parents. Though not quite up to the very high standard set by the same author's work, 'To Serve Them All My Days', they loved it and would recommend it to others of a similar mind who enjoy period drama series.
