Well, I've always found Lindsay Boxer a bit of a pain. All of that storyline with her 'girlfriends' is just a bore. The character herself is very stereotyped and one-dimensional (She is a cop. She is hard. She has a boyfriend. She worries about the job too much.)
Regardless of this, though, the main problem here is that this is actually two short stories thrown together to make one short novel. Don't be fooled by the number of pages, as the hundred and forty or so chapters each contain at least a half blank page. The first story is solved just like that, no mystery and no big problem in catching the criminal. The other story is more contrived and complicated, though never complex. It's easy to read, and the very short chapters with multiple cliffhangers do encourage you to want to read on. However, like a piece of candyfloss, it looks and feels tasty at the time, but it's soon over and no sensation is left.
