This collection is extremely well written, and there are many linguistic twists and puns that can be both surprising and amusing. I do not, however, recommend purchasing this edition of the book if you are not certain, or are unfamiliar with Muldoon's work as it is quite expensive. That said, the standard of the verse contained is both extremely high and almost unbelievably consistent: throughout the poems are enchanting and insightful, and while it is nearly an inevitability that the most talked-about works in this volume are going to be 'Horse Latitudes' and '90 Instant Messages to Thomas Moore' (although not without justification; they are both excellent!) there are many other poems that I am sure I will become very attached to in the future, 'The Old Country' being a prime example.
This collection is gripping, thought-provoking and reflective; despite the fact that Muldoon occasionally writes in a fairly academic style, these poems are worth are second look (and should be winning a few prizes in the oncoming year!).
