Bubba Ho-Tep:
This is a comedy horror which I think is one of, if not the best performance from Bruce Campbell. Imagine a retirement home set in present day in america, at this home there resides JFK and Elvis himself. Now, this is a plausible explanation about what could have happened to Elvis and that he could still be alive today. Bruce Campbell gives an excellent performance and plays the role perfectly, Ossie Davis plays a great JFK.
The special effects are quite satisfactory for the budget of the film and it doesn't really look dated, it is quite simply in that there aren't many locations to the film. The make up for Bruce Campbell is quite convincing too.
Now, I am not going to spoil the plot but essentially: The residents of a an people's home is being targeted by an evil force, can Elvis and JKF save the day?
There are a lot of extras you get included which is impressive, they include: Audio Commentary by the Director and Bruce Campbell, Audio Commentary by "The King", Deleted Scenes with commentary. Featurettes include: The Making of Bubba Ho-Tep, To Make A Mummy, Fit For A King, Rock Like An Egyptian. There is a music video, photo art.
There is also an introduction to the film where Bruce Campbell thanks fans for buying the film and says how funding was hard for the film and that he is asking people to show this film to their friends to help further it's popularity.
I Sell The Dead:
This is a surprising comedy about a couple of grave robbers set in Victorian times and their antics. You get to learn how they became partners and the cast is surprising, it includes: Dominic Monaghan, Ron Perlman being I believe the most known talent.
I won't give away the plot, but suffice to say that this is a comedy that involves, aliens, undead ghouls, walking dead and has some quite violent bloody encounters. I bought this triple pack for the other two films initially and I was pleasantly surprised by this seemingly unknown film.
With the extras I was a bit disappointed in that you only get two, these are: Making of I Sell The Dead Featurette and I Sell The Dead The Visual Effects.
The "Making Of" I found to be quite boring to be honest, it shows some scenes being filmed, you get some small segments from one of the directors where he explains some of the logistics of the film. It seems just kind of slapped together and after abut five minutes I couldn't be bothered to watch any more.
The "Visual Effects" is a bit more interesting as it is goes into the technical side of the special effects and so if you enjoy that side of films you will find it interesting, there is not much more to say on this really as it is self explanatory.
My Name Is Bruce:
This is a comedy where Bruce Campbell basically takes the mickey out of himself, he plays a cheesy B-movie actor who has made some dubious films and is in a slump with work and going through a divorce. He is called on to help save a town by one of his biggest fans, the film consists of quite a few cheesy one liners by Bruce, but it works. There are quite a few recognisable faces from other films, e.g. the blacksmith from Army of Darkness, the Hillbilly from Evil Dead 2 (I can't recall their names at the moment), and Ted Raimi.
As before, I won't give away the plot, but this is a good comedy that is worth seeing.
With the extras I was impressed with what you get, there is a gag reel, the feature length making of - in which Bruce tells about getting funding for the film and that the set for the film was actually built on his own property! There is a documentary - Heart of Dorkness which is quite amusing, there are lots of Featurette including: "Kif's Korner", Love Birds, The Making of Cave Alien 2, Hard Truth News from Hollywood - The Real Bruce Campbell. There is a trailer for Cave Alien 2, Poster Art, Photo Gallery, Props Art Gallery.
And so in conclusion, this is a great triple pack and works out as only £4 a film which is great for Blu-rays! You won't be left wanting if you are a Bruce Campbell fan and the other film "I sell the dead" is amusing.
Well worth adding to your collection!
