5.0 out of 5 stars Sing-Along excellency! 11 July 2009
Format:DVD
Two words: Superhero Musical.
More words: This is the DVD version of a 3-part webseries masterminded by Joss Whedon. He's the guy who created Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly, so you know you're onto a good thing here. He and his friends made this during the Writers Guild strike, in their own time and with their own money!

The songs are catchy, it's all very entertaining and there's some great one liners! The sad thing is it's very short (about 40 minutes), but the DVD comes with a bunch of extras (about 90 minutes worth), including real people applying to join the Evil League of Evil (they held a contest), as well as Commentary The Musical!

The DVD is also NOT Region 1 but REGION FREE, which means it works on any DVD player in the world! I heartily recommend this disc!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr Horrible gets under your skin 9 Jan 2009
Format:DVD
I saw this when it was first released on the Internet, and couldn't wait for it to be released to buy. Being sad, I ordered it from Amazon.com and was overjoyed to have it arrive on Christmas Eve! It's great - a true Joss Whedon epic crammed into forty-odd minutes, with wonderful songs that stick in the mind, characters who grab your heart, and an ending that ... well, I won't say, just in case I spoil it for you, but it's pure Joss. As for the extras, there are mini-docs on the making of this phenomenon, some fan-created auditions to join the Evil League of Evil ... but the best is Commentary! The Musical, where for the entire length of the show you can sit back and listen to the main protagonists singing about, well, everything.

When it came out on the Internet, it crashed the server because there were so many hits, and has just won a People's Choice Award in the States, so dig out some hard-earned cash and settle back to watch a once-in-a-lifetime story (that we all hope gets a sequel) then go and buy Firefly, Serenity, Angel ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Why isn't this available yet? 8 Jan 2009
Format:DVD
This is sheer genius. Even if you have downloaded the musical from iTunes or watched it last summer on the Internet, you still need this DVD. It's worth importing from the US, but it would be so much better not to have to.

Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly) wrote this with family and friends during the writers' strike, filmed it just before embarking on Dollhouse and released it to enormous acclaim in the summer of 2008 - so popular it "broke the internet". The central character, Dr Horrible, desperately wants two things - Penny, the love of his life, and to be a super-villain. Alas - how can they be compatible?

The songs are fresh and stick in the head. The lyrics and script are as funny and engaging as you might expect from this master-writer. The DVD extras are awesome - where else would you get a whole new musical as a commentary? Applications to join the Evil League of Evil sent in from master criminal wannabes from all over the world? You know you need this!
