5.0 out of 5 stars A cover that YOU SIMPLY CAN'T MISS - in its ... er...`understated' tones of vivid ORANGE and PURPLE!, 12 Mar 2007
By ABCeDar - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
`...and that `subdued' cover opens to 93 pages, split over 16 chapters:-

Introduction
Horrible hunters
Savage cities
Terrible tombs
The awesome East
Rotten Rome
Beastly barbarians
Nasty knights
Terrifying torture
Super sacrifice
Evil explorers
Rowdy rebellions
Cruel criminals
Woeful workers
Wicked wars
Epilogue

finishing with a `Vicious Villains' Fold-Out with 50 of the foulest!'

If you have read the regular `Horrible History' series of books, you will be aware of the way in which TERRY DEARY puts knowledge across, in a humorous way. This book is no exception.

`Ever since the first `Horrible Histories' (HH) book appeared they have been used for all sorts of things....

To prove history teachers wrong
To pester parents with endless questions and quizzes
To disgust Grannies with foul facts at the tea table

(HH books have also been used to prop up wobbly tables, block draughts under doors and been torn up for toilet paper - but we won't go into that!)

Delightfully illustrated, throughout, in colour, by Martin Brown.

I loved this book when I received it during the Christmas holidays, and not to long after the few days of festive action had ended. It tells you all about your subject and useful facts. Horrible Histories in general are great books, providing facts and fun for all!

I would recommend every part of all of the Horrible Histories books!
