A man is running, followed by a priest. He comes across a house but the tall gates are locked so he begins to climb them, however he slips at the top and impales himself on the spikes. Injured to death he's taken to an hospital. Once there, the doctors discover that this man has an amazing regenerative power and his blood coagulates very quickly, making him almost indestructible. Sergeant Ben Engleman is put on the case, and he finds out that the priest has the answers: this man, Mikos Stenopolis, is the result of a nuclear scientific experiment gone wrong. He's now completely insane and will kill everybody who crosses his path, showing no mercy.

No doubt if you're reading this review you already have an idea of what sort of film this is but to sum it up briefly its a low budget 80's Italian slasher film. "Horrible" or "Absurd" as its more commonly known here in the UK is a name only sequel to "Anthropophagus" (it was once called "Anthropophagus 2") and although George Eastman once again plays a mad killer the question of is it the same man is pretty much up to the audience. The film concerns a madman who after healing from having his stomach ripped open on a spiked fence with fast coagulating blood escapes from hospital to go on a killing spree with only two cops and the man responsible for mutating the killer on his trail. The film has some great kills, granted nothing that special for this day and age but still fun to watch, I really liked the film and thought it was quite interesting although I did prefer "Anthropophagus" which in my opinion is probably a little less gory but has a greater atmosphere probably because of the island setting, still I really recommend adding this film to your collection. If you're a fan of cult Italian films or video nasties this is without a doubt a must have disc, the disc has no special features whatsoever but if like me you've heard just how difficult it was to release this film due to copyright issues you'll just be glad to have an uncut DVD finally available, also you should note a few small scenes (probably about 3-5 minutes worth)are of a lesser quality due to the film being taken from two seperate sources but I assure you this does not distract from your viewing pleasure and doesn't happen during any of the important scenes.

Absurd!!!! 20 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
After the "success" of Anthropophagus the beast, Director Joe D'amato and his actor chum George Eastman decided the world needed a sequel, put there heads together and lo! Cult video nasty absurd, released by mya under the alternate title Horrible, though the film is also known as monster hunter in some terretories.
As fans of anthropophagus are probably wondering, after the ending to that one how is there a sequel?! Well though it's pretty much re-using Eastmans character from that movie, the film itself is unrelated, so people who have missed anthropohagus(and some may say thats a good thing!) are not going to feel alienated watching the movie. The plot is fairly straightforward, due to a nuculear experiment good ol george has been turned into a rgenerating monster who after escaping the hospital after getting impaled decides the best thing to do is go on a killing spree (seriously, i'm not making this up!)
Anthropophagus was one of those love it or hate it kind of movies, the acting was variable and after a good start it petered off until near the end when it became a complete gore fest. Horrible (absurd) is pretty much the same thing in that respect except d'amato at least paces this one somewhat better, making it more of a gorey slasher. Fans and collectors of the 'video nasty's' that were banned in the u.k. and people who love mental italian splatter movies like this one should definately buy this, as it's one fans have been clamouring for. Those who hated anthropophagus or simply dislike trashy gore fuelled bizzarre mutant movies like this should remove two stars at least from the review and avoid this like the plague.
The film lacks extras, though after seeing the fine job mya did with other releases I'm fairly certain it wasn't their fault. The picture quality varies as well, though this is because mya were forced to use two seperate prints to make sure the film is totally uncut.

Absurd! 10 Jan 2011
Format:DVD
Well this is a fine piece of Italian cheese-cinema. George Eastman ham it up the best he can and Joe D'amato directs it the only way he can... like a porno with plot. This slasher-fest is probably D'amatos goriest effort, but it's really dumbed down. Don't get me wrong it's very enjoyable, but don't expect anything like Dellamorte Dellamore. Imagine if Halloween was made in Italy with actuall gore FX.

The picture quality of the DVD goes from grainy to unwatchable VHS quality wich takes you right out of the movies otherwise moody feel. Too bad theres no other way to watch this thing, but at least MYA tried. Here's hoping somebody will find a complete print in Eastmans basement soon.
