DVD Description

For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently.

There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

Jason Bateman (Couples Retreat), Charlie Day (Going the Distance) and Jason Sudeikis (Hall Pass) star as the three hapless workers, with Jennifer Aniston (He's Just Not That Into You), Colin Farrell (Crazy Heart) and two-time Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects), as their unbearable bosses. Oscar® winner Jamie Foxx (Ray) stars as the plotters' unlikely mentor, whose street cred is priced on a sliding scale. The main cast also includes veteran actor Donald Sutherland and Julie Bowen (TV's Modern Family).

Murder most foul 23 Nov 2011
By Mr. R. W. Graham VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray
I wasn't expecting much from Horrible Bosses to be honest but this film did come as a very pleasant surprise and a very funny dark comedy about 3 guys who get together and decide to murder their horrible bosses with advice from a seemingly professional hitman played by Jamie Foxx. A great cast, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell are the horrible bosses in question and to be honest if i was working for any of those i might be tempted to murder them. Jennifer Aniston in particular stands out playing a character so far removed from Rachel in Friends it's a revalation. I've always said she's a fine comedian and actress but gets stuck after Friends finished playing thankless roles in bad romcoms as studios just want her to play Rachel over and over and this film for me proves it. She really is a nasty piece of work and very funny. Kevin Spacey and a nearly unrecognizeable Colin Farrell are excellent too and the 3 leads plus Jamie Foxx are also good. A lot of fun to watch.

I was aware of the mixed reviews and was expecting a Bad Teacher type of mild disappointment, but this turned out to be much better than that. It's a black comedy in a Coen Brothers-esque way, which can only be a good thing.

Bateman does his usual Arrested Development drole world-weary act, which worked well, and Aniston was smokin' hot, not to mention absolutely foul-mouthed, as every red-blooded man's dream boss. Why anyone would want to kill her for being a little friendly was a mystery though, so that part didn't ring true.

Kevin Spacey was great as a psycho boss with no regard for societal norms, but was so wonderfully horrible that it seemed a shame to plan to kill him.

I'd say this is definitely above average, and a little different, so well worth getting hold of if you're not offended by constant swearing or off-colour references.

Imagine the plot of Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train getting rerouted into the realm of screwball revenge comedy, and you'll start to get a picture of what Horrible Bosses is like. A non stop, unpredictable comedy that never slows down once the plot gets rolling, this film shows off the talents of a director with a knack for memorably outlandish characters and a talent for casting very familiar faces in an absurd new light.

From the opening scene detailing the humiliation and abuse that our three protagonists must endure on a daily basis, Horrible Bosses hums with comic energy. Though it may seem like an incredible feat to maintain such momentum for the whole film the director and company make a commendable effort by focusing on both the reprehensible actions of the titular villains and the incredulous reactions of the downtrodden working stiffs as they're pushed to the edge of reason.

Kevin Spacey is outstandingly nasty in this film throwing off sparks left right and centre, he is so horrible you hate him so much, that you almost start liking his character again. Even though Spacey was excellent, it's Colin Farrell who gets the best performance appraisal. Nearly unrecognizable in a bad comb-over and snug polyester pants, the handsome star fits into his despicable role so well that you'll wish he had more scenes. And then we have the hot babe in a lab coat, Jennifer Aniston may get more screen time than her less-attractive co-star, but it's Charlie Day's reactions to her character's psychotic come-ons that help give their scenes together an effective comic rhythm. This is probably Aniston's best, post Friends performance, to date, if for no other reason other than to see her in a good film, you should see Horrible Bosses. A special mention has to go out to the ever wonderful straight man Jason Bateman, who I feel is probably the best comic actor out there at the moment and I almost always like what ever he is involved with.

Horrible Bosses succeeds because it takes a situation everyone can relate to and milks it for maximum comic potential so we can forget our own workplace woes for just a brief moment. Also, having an amazing A-list cast at the absolute top of their acting game doesn't hurt either. Seriously, watch this movie! Recommended.
